About the group/team
The Security Group is responsible for protecting Canva systems and data from information security threats. The group runs programs across Identity and Access Management Application Security Risk Management Enterprise Security and Threat Detection and Response domains. Our teams work together and with other groups to deliver preventive and detective controls and processes that reduce security risk. Security Platform Engineering (SPE) is a new team to develop and drive adoption of high security consequence features into Canvas platforms for all engineers at Canva to leverage.
As a core contributor of this team you will be directly contributing to the development and adoption of security platform features. You will play a vital role in building high consequence security features in collaboration with other platform teams at Canva.
The Security Platform Engineering team is small 35 people). As a senior engineer on this team you will directly contribute to the design and development of security platform features. You will also directly drive adoption of security platform features by collaborating with other teams across Canva. You will have a direct role in ensuring the right security problems are being solved.
Role Responsibilities:
- Directly input into visionsetting strategy and planning for the team
- Own the full lifecycle of features from design docs and stakeholder alignment through implementation testing rollout and maintenance
- Champion adoption of security platform features across Canvas engineering teams
- Share learnings and key knowledge with the wider security group
- Support services through oncall building run books running tabletop exercises etc
- Engage with stakeholder teams to anticipate future security engineering needs
- Identify opportunities for crossteam collaboration to work on new ideas and improvements that help achieve our goals
Required Experience:
- Experience 58 years) in maintaining Cloudbased platform services where reliability and security are core goals
- Proficient in one or more programming languages and can directly contribute to the design and implementation of features (you will be programming)
- Strong software engineering fundamentals; be able to hold court with principallevel engineers and significantly contribute to design documents and complex software architecture
- Comfortable with computer science and engineering fundamentals: concurrency data structures
- Experience securing or building on on cloudbased environments (AWS Google Cloud Azure).
Nice to have:
- Experience in a security domain (application sandboxing encryption authN/Z etc) is a plus
- Programming experience in Rust Java or similar
- Experience with infrastructure tools like Terraform Helm K8s or similar
- Experience with Linux security fundamentals such as cgroups namespaces seccomp etc
