Description

General Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daytoday functions and operations of the Office of Student Experience (OSE) liaising closely with OAA administrative staff and leadership.
  • Aid in managing career and academic advising including working closely with faculty to develop and implement enhancements to orientations and support services to ensure exceptional education for MCFV medical students.
  • Help in planning organizing and taking part in OSE events such as: Pathway and Prematriculation programs orientations White Coat Ceremony Class Meetings etc.
  • Actively lead the match process including Match Week and Match Day as well as Hooding and participating in MU Commencement.
  • Partner with faculty and staff to aid with revisions/updates to current practice on the MSPE and the advising process.
  • Work closely with faculty and other Assistant/Associate Deans of Student Experience to codevelop and implement new educational innovations enhancements to student support services to ensure that MCFV students have the core knowledge and skills to be socially accountable community engaged physicians.
  • Participate and/or oversee (as appropriate or as directed by the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs) the planning and implementation of services in response to curricular changes related to the MD Program (i.e. curriculum working groups etc..
  • Meet as needed with the Medical Student Promotions and Professionalism Committee (MSPPC) to discuss students with academic difficulty and dismissal hearings.
  • Attend committee meetings related to your students and class and as your primary duties permit take part in other MU/MCFV initiatives and/or committees related to your area of professional expertise and career interest.
  • Participate in/contribute to various MCFC events in the academic calendar and in MCFV organized meetings retreats conferences & professional development days. As your duties allow participate in/contribute to other academic organizations events & programs (AAMC AAMC Groups etc..
  • Partner with faculty and staff to help with revisions/updates and the development of new Programs for the Office of Student Experience intended to advance the success for the MCFV MD Program
  • Liaise with the Assessment and CQI offices to support the regular evaluation of faculty teaching of and assessment of student performance in the M.D. curriculum to ensure meaningful continuous quality improvements to instructional programming with careful consideration of related LCME standards and elements.
  • Explore and provide peers and leadership with highimpact opportunities evidencebased changes program development/restructuring suggestions design to improve the medical education program and as necessary and respond to constructive concerns and/or suggestions from students and faculty.
  • Refer students to seek physical or mental health service as needed.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Student Success (or designee) and the curriculum director to monitor student progress discuss joint approaches to students who are struggling or having other performance issues and work together to monitor the progress of students through the curriculum.
  • Send monthly communications to the class about milestones and objectives to be completed.
  • Offer ongoing meeting times with M3 and M4 students.
  • Meet with every class member twice a year at a minimum.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Student Experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Experience in undergraduate medical education administration/educational leadership positions and teaching undergraduate medical (UME) students
  • Academic qualifications necessary for MU/CFVH faculty appointment
  • Experience handling students with mental health academic and personal concerns
  • Demonstrated commitment to student affairs
  • Enthusiasm to serve as a faculty role model as demonstrated by teaching and mentoring medical students engaging in student development and serving as an educational administrator
  • Willingness and ability to travel to all clinical sites

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with deans staff peers and university student affairs staff
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills (i.e. focused reporting for/to leadership)
  • Strong team building and conflict resolution skills
