JOB SUMMARY

Columbia College is seeking applications for a tenuretrack position at the rank of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Chair and Program Director for the Criminal Justice programs.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead and teach in both our undergraduate and graduate programs. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Criminology or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. A Juris Doctorate (J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position. ABD candidates may be considered if degree completion is expected before August 1 2025. Candidates with a strong background in forensics are especially encouraged to apply.

This fulltime faculty role 9month tenure eligible) reports directly to the Dean of the Division of Social Sciences. The position entails providing visionary leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Criminal Justice programs including the Bachelor of Arts (inperson and online general and forensic tracks) and Master of Arts (online).

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Curriculum Development: Design evaluate and revise academic programs to ensure alignment with institutional goals and industry standards.
  • Student Advisement: Provide academic guidance and mentorship to support student success and career readiness.
  • Inperson and Online Instruction: Develop and deliver engaging facetoface and online courses incorporating innovative teaching strategies and technology.
  • Student Recruitment and Retention: Actively participate in initiatives to attract and retain students including outreach programs and engagement activities.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct regular program assessments to measure effectiveness and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop strategic plans that enhance program visibility and growth.
  • Budget Management: Oversee program budgets ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Earned Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Criminology or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. A Juris Doctorate (J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position. ABD candidates may be considered if degree completion is expected before August 1 2025.
  • Proven record of accomplishment consistent with the rank of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Two 2 years of administrative or management experience or a history of progressively responsible administrative/leadership experience.
  • May be required to work additional hours during the academic year which may include early/late hours or occasional weekends.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite utilizing Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams and other related software programs.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to plan organize and prioritize work ability to multitask.
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; pays attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others excellent interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires sedentary work that involves walking standing lifting carrying pushing and pulling some of the time and requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work environment risks exposure to no known environmental hazards.
