Role Overview
Temple University Hillel is seeking a passionate and dynamic Community Engagement Associate to build relationships with students and create meaningful Jewish experiences on campus. With approximately 1500 Jewish students at Temple (about 4.55 of the student body) we are looking for someone excited to foster engagement support student leaders and develop innovative programming to connect students to Jewish life.
The ideal candidate will be a relationshipbuilder an excellent communicator and an enthusiastic presence on campus. They will work to empower students help shape Jewish student life and create a welcoming and pluralistic community. This role will center wellness as a foundational pillar of engagementnot just as a program but as an integral part of Jewish life. Through Jewish wisdom and values the Community Engagement Associate will guide students in cultivating wellbeing resilience and meaningful connections.
What Youll Do
- Build at least 200 relationships with Jewish students with a focus on those who are uninvolved or seeking a deeper connection to Jewish life.
- Develop student leadership opportunities mentoring engagement interns fellows and student leaders.
- Create and implement Jewish learning experiences social events and wellnesscentered programs that empower students to lead healthier more balanced lives.
- Provide students with referrals to our onsite therapist and other wellness resources ensuring they have access to the support they need.
- Serve as a role model of healthy living encouraging young adults to develop selfcare practices emotional resilience and strong support networks.
- Partner with student organizations including Greek Life preprofessional groups and nicheinterest communities to foster Jewish engagement in diverse spaces.
- Use Jewish traditions rituals and teachings to guide students in finding spiritual and emotional wellbeing in their daily lives.
- Work closely with Temple Hillel staff student leaders and campus partners to support and grow Temples Jewish community.
- Use social media and digital engagement strategies to connect with students and promote Hillel initiatives.
- Support major campuswide events such as Shabbat holiday programming and Jewish learning opportunities.
A Typical Day May Include
- Grabbing coffee with a student interested in launching a Jewish mindfulness or wellness initiative.
- Having lunch with a Greek Life leader to discuss integrating Jewish values and mental wellbeing into their chapter.
- Planning a Jewish learning session on selfcare through a Mussar (ethical teachings) lens with student leaders.
- Coaching Engagement Fellows on how to foster deeper more meaningful conversations with their peers.
- Checking in with students who have utilized Hillels wellness resources offering ongoing support and connection.
- Wrapping up the day by staffing a communitywide Shabbat dinner creating a welcoming space for rest and reflection.
What Youll Bring to the Job
- A Bachelors degree and 02 years of experience.
- A passion for Jewish life and pluralism with the ability to help students explore their Jewish identity.
- Strong networking and relationshipbuilding skills with an ability to connect with diverse student groups.
- A commitment to student wellness with a deep understanding of the challenges young adults face and how Judaism offers tools for resilience.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for designing innovative Jewish and wellnesscentered programs.
- Experience using social media and digital engagement tools.
- Excellent organizational skills the ability to work independently and adaptability in a fastpaced environment.
