Role Overview:

LikeMind Wagga is seeking an engaging First Nations professional to support LikeMind to deliver high quality culturally responsive services to First Nations people seeking mental health support and help to improve Mental Health recovery pathways for First Nations people in the Murrumbidgee region.

The successful candidate will be well supported to work within our strong multidisciplinary team to:

  • Act as the first point of contact of First Nations people accessing the LikeMind Service playing a direct role in their engagement and to facilitate an empathetic prompt and responsive service.
  • Provide phone based and facetoface information assessment care coordination referral brief psychosocial interventions cultural connection work and outreach.
  • Assist in developing facilitating and evaluating a range of community events health and education programs and networks with in the First Nations community.
  • Build upon existing partnerships to promote the services of LikeMind Wagga encourage early help seeking improve mental health literacy and raise awareness of the physical mental spiritual and social health challenges faced by First Nations people in the community.
  • Provide regular flexible low level/nonclinical support to service users
  • To be a point of contact for First Nations Communities groups and services in our area and to help to further strengthen our relationships with these communities.


Requirements:

  • Must identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. This is a genuine occupational qualification and is supported by Section 14 of the AntiDiscrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  • Hold established links with their local Aboriginal community
  • Hold an approved tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as Social Work Social Welfare Aboriginal Health Mental Health Community Services.
  • An understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Experience and skills in working with people experiencing mental health issues
  • Ability to think and act calmly and deal sensitively with distressed people
  • Knowledge of when to seek help or supervision promoting ethical behavior and antidiscriminatory practice that treats clients family and staff with dignity and respect
  • Understanding of the principles of duty of care rights to privacy and confidentiality
  • Demonstrate effective listening communication skills empathy and the capacity to relate with others with dignity and respect
  • Demonstrated communication interpersonal problem solving and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills and ability to maintain client/program records; provide statistical data and reports to management as required.
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Working With Children Check
  • Must hold or be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
  • Current drivers license
