Must hold a State of of Maine Med Tech certification AND a CNA certificationPosition Summary: The Certified Medical Technician (CMT) is a C.N.A/M who is responsible for the medication administration of the assigned nursing unit (long term care or skilled care) as well as performing all the essential job functions of a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A). Although the C.N.A/M is responsible for the accurate administration of medications these responsibilities may be delegated in whole or in part to other members of the staff as directed by the nursing administration. This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing and follows standard nursing procedures and facility policies for administering medication.Able to administer medication by oral rectal topical inhalation eye or ear routes under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse by following standard nursing procedures and facility policies for administering medication including but not limited to the following:o Maintains medication cart and ensures storage area is clean neat and areas are locked if appropriateo Obtains permission from licensed nurse before administering PRN medicationo Performs the count of nonnarcotic countable medications with medication technician or licensed nurse at beginning and end of shift.o Administers no Schedule II or any sliding scale drugso Checks supply of medications for each resident on unit and coordinates with nursing staff for any reorder medication needso Takes vital signs following correct procedure including apical pulse ratesReports any significant changes in resident condition or vital signs to Charge Nurse or Supervisor promptly.Documents medication administered on MAR per facility policy and procedures.Must be comfortable working with frequent interruptions.Ability to work with emotionally upset residents/patients and family members.Can communicate effectively with medical staff nursing personnel and other department supervisors.Has a passion for working with long term care residents and skilled rehabilitation patients to provide excellent resident and patient care.Ability to work independently have flexibility personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents/patients personnel and support agencies.
