The Role: Research Crop Protection Senior Department Head
Our client is in the process of filling the vacant position of Research Crop Protection SDH within their Agriculture Department reporting to the Head of Research & Development.
PURPOSE:
Identification of pests and diseases (diagnosis) affecting pineapple production experimentation and recommendation.
Main accountabilities of the Research Crop Protection SDH will include:
Designing the sampling/monitoring for pests and diseases and making appropriate recommendations to the Agriculture department.
Efficacy screening and seeking registration of new pesticides and plant growth regulators by the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB). Seeking Phytosanitary certificate and Plant Import Permit (PIP) from Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) for fresh fruits or plants materials exported and imported by our client respectively.
Advising the Agriculture Department on pesticides usage suitability registration status and market acceptability.
Management of Crop protection/Research human and finance resources to ensure efficient utilization. This includes preparation monitoring and control of the budget
Supporting and supervising the establishment and follow up of actions to achieve compliance of all national and international standards which our client subscribes to.
Requirements
ADDITIONAL ATTRIBUTES:
Experience of 5 years in field research work in crop protection or a related field.
Must have MSc. in Crop Protection or a closely related field.
Substantial experience in Crop Protection regulatory systems.
Excellent knowledge and experience of Kenya EAC and Global pesticides regulatory system.
Experience in food safety management systems.
Good knowledge and experience in agronomy entomology pathology nematology and science in relation to Crop Protection.
Ability in setting up field and laboratory pests and disease experiments.
Good knowledge and experience in statistical designs data analysis and report writing.
