Under the mentorship of seasoned professionals youll gain invaluable realworld experience and access premier training facilities in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The Apprentice Project Engineer will work collaboratively with our diverse engineering team to execute innovative fire suppression projects. This role is designed for individuals eager to contribute to impactful solutions and learn from a dedicated group of experts.


As an apprentice youll immerse yourself in a handson learning environment acquiring new skills while fostering connections with our knowledgeable staff.

What Youll Do at Work

  • Learn essential project management skills in the dynamic Fire Suppression industry.

  • Develop expertise in commissioning cuttingedge Fire Detection and Suppression systems on largescale projects globally.

  • Experience a challenging and rewarding role that serves as a launching pad for a lifelong career in a highly innovative and technical business environment.

  • Participate in college courses on a block release basis which may involve staying away from home (travel accommodation and meals will be covered by the company).

  • Engage with detailed project specifications and design data collaborating with clients endusers subcontractors and internal departments on technical matters.

  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of applicable fire suppression codes and standards such as National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and British Standards (BS).

  • Assist with Front End Engineering Design (FEED) studies and conduct onsite surveys to determine work scopes.

  • Ensure design work aligns with agreed project milestones and targeted margins while minimizing costs.


Where Youll Work

This role is based at our Manchester office. However national travel will be required for different projects and site visits. It is essential that you are happy to travel work away and occasionally stay overnight.

Enrol in a level 3 Project Controls Technician qualification delivered by Traind Up alongside fellow Johnson Controls apprentices.

  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 5 essential

  • GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 5 essential

  • Other Driving Licence (Grade Full) essential

Whats Next

Suitable candidates will be contacted via email to provide their evidence of required certifications. Once we receive the evidence of certification you will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position. Afterward you will be invited to an assessment centre where you will participate in a practical assessment meet the team and have an interview.

Candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful they can expect to begin the apprenticeship with Johnson Controls in the late summer of 2025.
