Job Description
At the moment you will be focused on:
- Developing backend services that leverage cuttingedge AI capabilities while maintaining system stability with Java.
- Working collaboratively with leads product managers and engineers across teams at Canva to unblock backend works that help your group deliver features and experiments to our customers worldwide
- Facilitating knowledge sharing and effectively advocating for engineering needs to nontechnical stakeholders within the group
- Building robust APIs that balance creating at scale with creative flexibility and building tools and frameworks that help us rapidly and effectively conduct experiments across different parts of the Canva app
Youre probably a match if:
- You have commercial experience developing sophisticated web applications in Java.
- You are firmly grounded in computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency multithreading data structures solution design architecture and design patterns
- You work collaboratively with team members and communicate effectively
- You have experience building highperformance scalable backend services with strong skills in API design and implementation.
- You have a productfirst mindset with a strong intuition for how backend services can enable exceptional user experiences

As a Backend engineer in the Design at Scale team you will design and implement the serverside components that power our atscale design editing capabilities. Youll be responsible for creating robust scalable backend services for our Marketing platform Sheet integrations Team Library integrations and Brand AI strategy including the insight feedback loops. Your work will directly impact how thousands of enterprise customers and millions of users interact with designs and assets in Canva ensuring performance and reliability at scale.
