Job Description

Managing Director of Finance

The Managing Director of Finance leads KIPP MAs finance and accounting functions managing resources that fuel our progress toward impact sustainability and scale.  An experienced manager aligned with KIPP MAs values and culture the Managing Director oversees a team of finance staff; and reporting to the Chief Finance and Talent Officer the Managing Director is a key leader on KIPP MAs Senior Leadership Team collaborating with staff across our region and schools in Lynn and Boston. Bringing sophisticated finance expertise the Managing Director manages: Financial Operations Controls & Compliance Financial Reporting and Budgeting.

This role requires consistent and reliable demonstration of the following essential job functions and key responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Tactical Work

  • Prepare financial statements the DESE Charter School End of Year Financial report monthly/quarterly budget reports and forecasts and other required financial reports
  • Oversee finance portions of public grants management including budgeting and reporting
  • Manage finance team to ensure invoices are paid on time and expense/invoice data is accurately imported from the budgeting and accounts payable software into the accounting software and vice versa
  • Ensure that KIPP MA receives a clean audit each year; lead the organizations annual audit process
  • Oversee tax reporting

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead the finance team including managing and developing the Finance Manager and Finance Coordinator
  • Lead the finance teams work on ensuring that the organization is structuring financial decisions through an antiracist lens
  • Lead monthly/quarterly budget meetings with principals Directors of School Operations and regional office leaders

Strategic Planning & Improvement

  • Develop systems for monthly quarterly and annual reconciliations; oversee timely and accurate monthly quarterly and annual close
  • Ensure KIPP MA is up to date regarding compliance and best practices with DESE and other state and federal regulations tax and accounting issues
  • Develop and maintain a documented system of financial policies and procedures and communicate and manage organization on fiscal policies and procedures
  • Work closely with the development team to track and reconcile private grants; ensure that grant expenses are properly tracked and accounted for

KIPP MA staff are supported in their demanding work by experienced and dedicated leadership and staff who have themselves proven successful in their role. Our KIPP MA Executive Leadership Team maintains consistent systems and procedures designed to permit staff to do their best work. 

In addition to the responsibilities listed above there will occasionally be other duties as assigned that staff will engage in to help promote a positive and safe learning environment and culture.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10 years of experience in accounting finance operations or business administration
  • 5 years in a financial leadership position preferably in a public charter school
  • Bachelors Degree required; Masters degree in accounting finance or business administration preferred
  • Love and unwavering belief in the high potential of all students
  • Commitment to antiracism and equity
  • Proven track record of technical and accounting knowledge and skills
  • Detailoriented
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize building strong relationships with others
  • Computer literacy and baseline familiarity with Google Suite
  • Pass criminal background checks

Additional Information :

What We Offer

The starting base salary range for this exempt position is $110000 to $140000 (per 1.0 FTE/45 hours per week) with a $1000 signing bonusand an annual performance bonus as well as other bonuses when eligible.
