Position Purpose:
Performs a variety of unskilled or semiskilled tasks in the operations and maintenance of water distribution and treatment systems and wastewater collection and treatment systems.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs routine servicing and corrective maintenance of water and wastewater systems.
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during other course of work.
- Cleans vehicles heavy equipment bar screens comminutors weirs drying beds digesters pumps tools and other stationary and portable equipment.
- Performs routine inspection of vehicles and equipment; performs minor maintenance and lubrication of machinery such as changing oil and greasing equipment.
- Maintains grounds and buildings: cuts grass weeds and brush; trims trees and bushes; rakes grass leaves and trash seeds and cares for lawns and ornamental plantings.
- Operates and maintains vehicles equipment and tools required to load unload haul and spread sand gravel dirt and/or waste products (sludge product waste packaging waste etc); digs and refills ditches and trenches.
- Carries or holds materials supplies and tools to assist operations and maintenance personnel.
- Maintains records to accurately reflect pounds of materials hauled by private contractors or applied to agricultural lands.
- Performs other duties as required.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
Qualifications :
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of vehicles equipment farm machinery pumps and equipment used in and around water and wastewater systems.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance of vehicles equipment structures and buildings.
- Must be able to dig and backfill a ditch.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Possess a valid vehicle operator license.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds from floor to waist level. Items lifted are often bulky and difficult to handle.
- Must be able to climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold and climb into vehicles having high ground clearance.
- Must be able to push a pushtype power lawn mower for up to 3 hours a day.
- Must be able to walk up to 3 miles per 8hour shift.
- Must be able to ascend and descend up to 1000 steps in an 8hour shift.
- Must be able to carry a 50pound toolbox up a flight of stairs.
- Must be able to work in constricted places.
