Job Description

NECO Center for Eye Care is the affiliated clinical system of The New England College of Optometry a professional graduate school in Bostons Back Bay. Reporting to the Revenue Cycle Manager this position is responsible for running insurance eligibilities and benefits prior to date of exam updating benefits within the practice management software and communicating with Patient Care Coordinators at multiple locations regarding eligibility benefits and referrals.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Verifies insurance eligibility via online or telephone based eligibility systems and makes appropriate changes to demographic benefit and insurance information in Practice Management system.
  • Verify and document that the patients insurance is active and includes available routine and medical benefits for all appointments scheduled at least three business days in advance.
  • Inform appropriate Billing staff members of any issues related to the ledger.
  • Provide backup coverage for Patient Billing & Claims Review Coordinator
  • Communicates with Patient Care Coordinators about upcoming appointments regarding patient eligibility missing information benefits referrals etc.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to maintain work practices that comply with established New England Eye Institute policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to promote a safe environment for patients visitors and peers
  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Proven track record with customer service organizational skills etc.
  • ICD10CPT experience preferred
  • Computer/internet proficient
  • Two years experience in doctor office or billing experience preferred

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Computer literate including knowledge of software programs utilized in the practice and a working knowledge of medical billing software.
  • Excellent communication skills written and oral
  • Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a busy environment
  • Understanding of general insurance rules and regulations and CPT and ICD10 coding.
  • Able to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Wellorganized with attention to detail
  • Excellent followup skills
