About the role:
Under the general supervision of the RRP Subject Specialist Lead Environment & Climate Change the Mtis Nation of Ontario is seeking a strong team player to assist and lead the development of an Ontario wide emergency preparedness mitigation response and recovery program. This is a fulltime position with preference for candidates to be based in Northern Ontario.
This position would be responsible for the development of procedures and protocols for an emergency preparedness mitigation response and recovery program aimed at providing support and a coordinated response to communities and citizens before during and after emergencies such wildfire flooding and extreme weather. This position will be required to work closely with a variety of MNO Branches and staff as well as regional and community leaders to ensure the coordinated development and delivery of programming
What you will be doing:
- Development of strategic emergency management plan which would include reactive and proactive plans in response to community emergencies.
- Liaise with province municipalities and other regulators on their preparedness mitigation response and recovery programs and advocate for community supports.
- Work on the development of an MNOwide emergency preparedness mitigation response and preparedness program.
- Participate in and support the delivery of emergency preparedness and response trainings
- Develop and set strategic emergency management goals and objectives in coordination with the RRP Team and Senior Leadership.
- Manage operational and fiscal activities of programs including developing and implementing project work plans and budgets.
- Support drafting of proposals to secure funding for programmatic needs.
- Prepare reports and/or briefing notes which may include monthly quarterly and annual reports on program delivery.
- Build and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with Mtis citizens communities and organizations ensuring emergency preparedness policies and procedures are culturally safe respectful and appropriate.
- Other duties/responsibilities as determined by MNO leadership and/or Subject Specialist Lead Environment & Climate Change
Qualifications:
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Mtis Citizens to advance and uphold rights and culture
- Knowledge of Mtis culture Indigenous governance systems and issues facing Mtis or Indigenous peoples in Canada
- Knowledge of current and emerging issues in emergency management
- A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
- Advanced communications skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong project coordination skills including the design and implementation of project workplans
- Demonstrated timemanagement skills with the ability to manage competing demands and assess changing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to assess situations and problemsolve independently
- Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision
- Postsecondary education and/or training in a relative field
- 35 years of experience in development of emergency management plans and/or emergency service delivery
- Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
- Previous experience dealing with confidential information
- Previous experience working with an Indigenous government
Assets
- Bilingualism in English/French or Indigenous language
- ISC 100 200 training
- Volunteer management experience
- Community engagement experience
