ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
This position supports Indirect Tax and the RAI Companies by providing strategic input and guidance to S&RA Operations Trade Marketing Consumer Marketing Finance R&D External Affairs Legal Procurement and other internal partners related to (i) Federal Excise Tax compliance and (ii) import compliance with US Customs and other US Government Agencies. The position reports to the Senior Manager Indirect Tax.
This position is an integral part of the Finance function which liaises with numerous Operating Company departments to proactively understand the Operating Companies business requirements and activities and ensure such activities comply with Federal tax laws and regulations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
- Owns the entire federal excise tax process daily biweekly monthly & quarterly for at least 1 OpCo.
- Federal Excise Tax audit support
- Federal Excise Tax compliance with foreign insurance premium reporting & payments
- Reviews export clearance documentation for accuracy.
- Update RJRT FET monthly general file balance against FET GL accounts
- Crosstrain for FG tobacco products packaging reviews for compliance with TTB regulations RJRT ASC & SFNTC
- Crosstrain for all RJRT ASC & SFNTC FDA monthly reports.
- Reviews all ASC & SFNTC FET payments claims for destruction adjustments monthly reports & monthly tobacco processing reports.
- Crosstrain for RJRT adjustments payments monthly reports & monthly tobacco processing reports
- Crosstrain for 2x monthly reviews of FET liability accruals for RJRT communication of needed adjustments to accounting.
- Prepares & reviews RJRT Daily Tax Bundles.
- Provide guidance to R&D S&RA and Consumer & Trade Marketing & Operations related to movements of exciseable products to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Undergraduate degree required
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience including accounting/tax US Customs import compliance and/or legal
- Advanced communication and presentation skills
- Knowledge of applicable laws / regulations
- Strong working knowledge of Company systems e.g. SAP WMS MS Office etc.
- Able to adopt new technologies to streamline existing processes to generate efficiencies / improvements
- Ability to effectively interact with governmental officials
- Strong ability to quickly grasp complicated subject areas
- Strong business partnering skills
- Proficiency with statutory / regulatory research
