Job Description

Position Summary
The IU Luddy School of Informatics Computing and Engineering at Indiana University Indianapolis invites applications for an openrank (assistant associate or full professor) clinical faculty position in the Department of Library and Information Science. The appointment will begin August 1 2025. This is a nontenure track 10month appointment with the opportunity for annual reappointment and additional summer compensation. The primary duties of clinical appointees at IU are teaching and service. Position Summary: Exceptional candidates in the fields of data studies or library and information science are being sought to join our department. Candidates will be considered from all related areas including communications and social informatics. We seek a dynamic individual who will combine excellence in teaching with an external service component focused on building impactful campus and community initiatives and partnerships for the departments academic programs. The ideal candidate will foster partnerships that create internship opportunities and facilitate experiential learning for students equipping them with the skills and practical experience needed to excel in their careers. Teaching (Primary Responsibility): Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in data and information science including but not limited to topics such as critical data studies information organization data curation and management and data analysis and visualization. Develop and update curriculum to reflect current trends and professional practices in data and information science. Utilize innovative teaching methods including projectbased and experiential learning to engage students in realworld applications of data and information science concepts. Service (CampusCommunity and Industry Engagement): Establish strengthen and lead partnerships with local businesses nonprofits government agencies and campus units to create and be the program point person in the department for internships coop programs projectbased courses with external clients capstone projects and other experiential learning opportunities for students in the LIS undergraduate program Serve as a liaison between the institution and the community to promote the integration of datadriven solutions into community projects. Lead or participate in campuswide initiatives focused on career readiness and student success. Work with Career Services staff to provide mentorship and career guidance to students assisting them in securing internship placements and navigating professional development opportunities. Scholarly and Professional Development (Secondary Responsibility): Engage in applied community or industry projects related to data and information science. Present findings at academic or industry conferences related to the scholarship of teaching and servicerelated projects.
