Volunteer Opportunity
Relationship Builder:
In your role as a Relationship Builder you will be challenged to engage with youth on a deeply personal level.
You will be amazed as youth share their stories with you and want you to walk alongside them on their journey as a valued and trusted adult. This may mean chatting with individuals or groups of youth but always with the intention of hearing their story and being available to support.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with students in various activities as well as in intentional conversations. Provide a safe supportive adult for students to talk to about daily life and current problems.
- Provide a warm compassionate nonjudgmental accepting adult presence.
- Be intentional to get to know students and what they are going through.
- Be able to follow up with past conversations in order to help students feel heard and seen.
- Communicate with YU staff about some of the supports needed for students. Arrive half an hour before the program starts to help set up the space.
- Clean up and debrief with the rest of the leadership team after dropin.
Time Commitment:
- Dropins run from 3:306pm 2x per week after school at each dropin across the city. We would love you to be at as many as you are comfortable with. Our preference would be at least one day a week but this is negotiable.
- 1 hour 3x per year for support/checkins with the team lead.
- 2 hours 2x per year for training/appreciation.
As a relationallyfocused program you and your presence matter. Youth are looking for role models and stable consistent adults to support them. So if you want to take on a volunteer role with us commitment is important. Relationships are built on stability.
