The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service investigates deaths of persons who die from criminal violence by accident by suicide suddenly when in apparent good health when unattended by a physician in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner. Our service is also responsible for approving cremations.
The Medical Examiner Service serves the people of Nova Scotia by providing impartial professional compassionate and accurate medicolegal death investigation. We serve Nova Scotians by providing compassionate service that meets the highest standards of science. We are committed to educating the next generation of forensic scientists. We collaborate with our partners in health care and health surveillance to prevent deaths.
As a term student you will contribute to the overall research of the Death Review Committees (intimate partner violence children in care and incustody deaths) and provide support to the Project and Committee Manager on a number of key activities and responsibilities. Specifically pertaining to organization and government initiatives on mental health healthcare supportive services policies policing local programs etc. recommendations of other jurisdictions and other related topics.
You must be currently enrolled and completed two years of an undergraduate program in public administration project management epidemiology criminal justice forensic science or related program and returning to school in the fall (or in the next applicable semester for the education program).

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination standardized tests oral presentations interview(s) and reference checks.
Normal work week is 35 hours/week 7 hours/day
Work is hybrid (workfromhome meeting with supervisor and attending committee meetings)
Exposure to highly sensitive and confidential information.
This is a summer student opportunity with a work term of May 1 to Augustweeks).
Pay Grade: HOURLY
Salary Range: $18.22 $29.69Hourly
