This includes AWAKE CERNs pioneering protondriven plasma wakefield acceleration experiment. AWAKE uses proton beams from the Super Proton Synchrotron to create strong wakefields in a plasma cell and accelerate a witness electron beam. The second phase of AWAKE (Run 2 aims to demonstrate multiGeV electron acceleration while maintaining beam quality and scalability.
