Job Description
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the operating room assists nursing staff with delegated tasks of patient care which support and complement nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse. At a minimum the PCA carries out designated skills that are within those functions of a certified nursing assistant as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing. The PCA communicates data reflective of the patients status and delegated tasks and/or functions. The incumbent works flexible hours which may include days evenings nights holidays and weekends.
Operating Room PCA General Duties:
Organizes and cleans central work areas patient rooms and patient equipment.
Assists in operating room turnover including cleaning and removing trash.
Inventory management of department supplies as delegated by RN or surgical team.
Retrieval of Blood products from the Blood bank as delegated by the RN.
Retrieval of specimens and transporting to appropriate laboratory area as delegated by the RN.
Retrieval of patient beds and equipment from the designated areas as delegated by the RN.
Demonstrates flexibility to best meet department needs including floating when necessary.
During the selection process you will participate in a virtual (prerecorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. You will have the opportunity to rerecord your answer to each question Mayo Clinic will only see the final recording. The complete interview will be reviewed by a Mayo Clinic staff member and you will be notified of next steps as appropriate.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Completion of a Nursing Assistant training program.
Additional Qualifications
- Availability to work flexible hours which may include days evenings nights holidays and weekends.
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
- Relevant experience preferred. Strong computer skills preferred.
Certification/Licensure
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification through Arizona Board of Nursing is required upon hire. Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) preferred required within 12 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
