Hennepin Countys Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking individuals interested in gaining handson professional experience in the field of adult probation. Interns will assist Probation Officers with a diverse caseload of adult clients by utilizing a variety of strategies to minimize clients criminogenic risks and meet their individual needs. Through these internships students will gain a greater understanding of the criminal justice system become familiar with available community resources and recognize and respect cultural differences to provide culturally appropriate service to probation clients. Location and hours:
These internships are onsite and are located at various adult probation locations throughout Hennepin County. The duration of these internships allows for aminimum of 250 hours and up to amaximum of 480 hours in 2025 (e.g. 20 hours/week for 6 months). These internships are intended to start in June 2025 and last until either the 250 hours or 480 hours has been met. The work schedule will be Monday through Friday during standard business hours 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and may include occasional evenings until 7 p.m.

The responsibilities of each position include but are not limited to the following:
Report to: Hennepin County Government Center 300 6th Street South Minneapolis MN 55487 Brookdale 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway Brooklyn Center MN 55430 and Ridgedale 12601 Ridgedale Drive Minnetonka MN 55305.
This unit is responsible for handling all incoming cases/clients for Hennepin County referred from the court or external agencies looking to transfer clients to Hennepin County. Interns in this unit will assist agents with a variety of duties and responsibilities including use of validated risk assessment tools that determine level and location of supervision writing presentence investigation reports for the court and conducting screenings/investigations for potential treatment court participants.
Report to: Hennepin County Government Center 300 6th Street South Minneapolis MN 55487
This unit is responsible for supervising a caseload of clients that are on court ordered conditional release supervision while their criminal case proceeds through the court process. Agents are responsible for being client centered and supervising each case in accordance with best practices based on preadjudication risk level.
Felony Investigation (Minneapolis)
Report to: Hennepin County Government Center 300 6th Street South Minneapolis MN 55487.
This unit are responsible for writing Presentence Investigations (PSI) Triage Investigations and Criminal Record Summaries on felony level cases. Interns in this unit will assist with client interviews evaluating client risk and need investigating client backgrounds completing criminal history record checks review of law enforcement and collateral records interpretation and determination of presumptive sentencing outcomes per the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines victim and other collateral contacts and outlining sentencing recommendations.
Interstate/Intrastate (Brooklyn Center or Minneapolis)
Report to:Brookdale 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway Brooklyn Center MN 55430Hennepin County Government Center 300 6th Street South Minneapolis MN 55487.
This unit works with caseloads that include supervision of clients who are convicted of crimes in places where they dont live. The intern in this unit will assist agents with coordinating transfer referrals for clients who are convicted in other jurisdictions and either currently live in Hennepin County or want to move here. The intern will work with agents in the unit to investigate these referrals to determine the appropriateness of the transfer and if accepted support supervision requirements of the jurisdiction where the conviction occurred.
Neighborhood Probation (Minneapolis)
Report to:Probation Center North 4336 Lyndale Avenue North Minneapolis MN 55412.
This unit works with caseload based in North Minneapolis working with known and associated group members in Minneapolis 4th Precinct. In addition to learning regular probation duties the intern may accompany the Probation Officer in working with law enforcement agencies particularly the Minneapolis Group Violence Intervention Team to assist with community safety and group violence programming.
Probation Services (Minneapolis)
Report to:Probation Center North 4336 Lyndale Avenue North Minneapolis MN 55412 and the Hennepin County Government Center 300 6th Street South Minneapolis MN 55487.
This unit provides probation supervision to clients who are living in Hennepin County on a highvolume caseload. The intern position will work with staff members to learn probation duties monitor compliance of court ordered conditions help with assigned job duties and gain knowledge of supervision and the use of various computer systems in DOCCR. The intern position will conduct in person meetings with clients.
Court Unit (Minneapolis)
Report to: The Hennepin County Government Center 300 South Sixth Street A11 Minneapolis MN 55487.
This unit is responsible for representing the Agent of Record by providing recommendations for a fair and swift resolution to the violations. Intern position will assist with preparation of court calendars. This unit appears at probation hearings and communicates with criminal justice partners regarding probation violation. This position will have communication with the Agent of Record via chronological documentation email or other forms of communications This area supervises felony administrative caseloads.
