Located within the Colorado Department of Human Services the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) is responsible for policy development service provision and coordination program monitoring and evaluation and administrative oversight for the public behavioral health system. OBH funds supports and monitors numerous mental health and substance abuse community programs and providers and reviews and designates the States 2765 providers. OBH also operates the Colorado Mental Health Institutes at Fort Logan and Pueblo and the office of Forensic Services. OBH executes the States federal responsibilities as the State Mental Health Authority and State Substance Abuse Authority for the purposes of administering federal mental health and substance abuse block grant funds.

The Court Services Department is a statewide program with staff in Pueblo Denver and other locations. It provides forensic evaluations for defendants in criminal cases which include court ordered evaluations of competency restoration sanity and mental condition. These evaluations are performed in the jail in the community or at CMHIP and are performed by psychologists and psychiatrists as mandated in the Colorado Statute 168.5. This work unit addresses the referral table for admission to the state hospital or jailbased restoration program from jails by managing incoming court orders and prioritizing requests for admission.

About This Position:


This position is involved in the operation distribution equipment and inventory control of media equipment to include maintenance. Specifically this position operates and records all courtordered sanity and mental condition examinations within time constraints and the agencys available technology and resources. This position implements modifies and utilizes decision making pertinent to the complexity and action needed to carry out tasks. The position uses judgment to include the application and adaptation of principles theories concepts practices and policy guidelines. This position decides the most efficient means of accomplishing duties while prioritizing workload under changing work conditions. This position uses critical thinking skills and analysis to clarify pertinent tasks needed with administrative and clinical professionals. The position establishes and manages filing and storing systems involving circulation and retrieval production access and proper handling of audio/visual/media to ensure protection of health information. This position reports directly to the Administrative Supervisor of Court Services.

In person hybrid (this person will need to be in office on days that video recordings are taking place)



Description of Job:


Audio/Video/Media Recording:
  • Produces audiovisual media materials by operating television cameras teleprompters audio mixing devices editing apparatus and other audiovisual/media equipment to determine the desired effect for Court Services Evaluators
  • Works closely with assigned evaluators to provide audio/visual recording of court ordered evaluations for sanity and mental condition. This includes using judgment in selecting and interpreting appropriate audiovisual guidelines practices and techniques to complete assignments or projects
  • Works with various courts throughout Colorado and at unexpected intervals so this position must monitor and prioritize daily to ensure availability to record all evaluations in both CMHIP and CMHIFL based on scheduling

Job Knowledge:


  • Demonstrates working knowledge and follow standards set by HPPA to comply with patient protected information
  • Applies established standard audiovisual techniques and practices that permit little deviation or change as the task is repeated
  • Introduces new ideas or methods to improve the manner and speed with which audio/visual tasks are carried out
  • Demonstrates ability to operate and maintain inventory of equipment
  • Provides maintenance of a variety of audiovisual/media equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to use critical thinking judgment and problem solving to particular situations
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle emergencies and meet required deadlines
  • Follows guidelines in the form of best practices of audiovisual principles practices techniques or methods
  • Completes the assigned task as prescribed by the project without deviation and within proper protected locations


Process Court Orders:


  • Researches upon receipt of court orders for sanity and mental condition this position researches previous admissions compiles discovery prepares assignment packs for the forensic evaluators for sanity and mental condition evaluations and gets evaluations assigned


Other Duties as Assigned


  • Completes or assists with other work unitrelated requests from the Court Services or Forensic Services Director as assigned

Experience Only:


Four 4 yearsof relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position


OR


Education and Experience:


A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four 4 years


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of audio/video equipment and how to maintain it; problemsolving and decisionmaking skills

  • Proficiency in software andtoolsused for creating and managing media content (and content management systems) strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Experience communicating with courts/attorneys


Special Qualifications:

Due to the juvenile population served at the MHI facilities incumbents of this position must be at least 21 years of age


Conditions of Employment:

  • Full Background check required.

  • Shift work required

  • Vaccinations as required by state and facility

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation as to why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
