We are currently seeking a Structural Engineering Trainee to join our structural group. This is a hybrid role based in our Mississauga office requiring a minimum of two inoffice days per week. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in structural design and prepare detailed drawings and specifications 
  • Determine construction costs and quantities and carry out studies and technical reports with detailed accuracy and monitor project progress against budgets 
  • Conduct field work including investigations/inspections for the design retrofit remediation and construction of structures in sometimes inclement conditions 
  • Review progress and compliance of construction work in accordance with tender documents 
  • Support other members of the team who are earlier in their career and needing guidance 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with other project professionals from functions including structural mechanical and design such as architects engineers and technicians 
  • Use industry software to support projects such as SAP2000 ETABS SAFE etc. 
  • Occasionally with guidance from a manager or team leader liaise with clients to discuss various aspects of a project 

Terms of Employment: fulltime 37.5 hours /week 

Language of Work: English  


Qualifications :

  • Masters degree in Civil or Structural Engineering 
  • 35 years of structural engineering experience in buildings sector  
  • Have strong understanding of the Canadian building codes and design standards  
  • Have knowledge of design of Marine Structures and applicable codes in Canada.  
  • Have strong experience in the condition assessment and the design of different types of wharfs dockwall and marine structures 
  • Have proven experience in conducting structural inspections of subway tunnels 
  • Demonstrated strength in technical writing 
  • Demonstrate good knowledge in designing concrete and steel structures 
  • Have strong skills in implementing finite element analysis for structural problems 
  • Tracking to register for a P.Eng certification in the next 23 years  
  • Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle 

Preference will be given to candidates with the following:  

  • Bilingualism is always an asset 
  • A valid drivers license with the ability to be included in CIMA drivers insurance. (i.e. a clean driving record)

Salary: The expected salary for this position ranges between $67000 and $82000 and is based on the richness and diversity of the candidates experience training skills and internal equity.  

Work week: 37.5 hours

Eligible for overtime in accordance with CIMA policy 

Eligible for annual salary increases
