Integrates services withappropriate departments. Maintainsaccurate records of reports and response actions. Maintains product and equipmentinventories. Maintains current knowledgeof technological and regulatory changes.Interfaces with Hospital personnel to successfully integrate servicesemphasizing sanitation and structural repairs and other methods required tosuccessfully manage urban arthropod and vertebrate commensals parasites andmechanical disease vectors while minimizing pesticide use. Provides input into MGH main campus andsatellite building integrated projects.Works cooperatively with outside service vendors.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans organizes andimplements environmental quality assessments and services related to integratedpest management (IPM). Responds toservice requests and performs preventive services based on master schedules. Follows service schedules and adaptsschedules to daily service needs.Manages pesticide use as necessary for the Hospital as required andaccording to MGH departmental policies and procedures and Federal EPA and Stateregulations. Maintains accurate recordsand supply inventories prepares and discusses activities with Supervisor.
Interfaces withHospital staff who receive and/or request pest management services. Investigates and reports on acute andfrequently recurring problems to Supervisor and appropriate Hospital staff. Tracks critical problems until they areresolved.
Keeps abreast ofcurrent regulations and relevant developments in technology and advisesappropriate staff of impending and/or promulgated regulations.
Provides routineinservice IPM education to Housekeeping Dietary and Nursing staff principleinvestigators and researchers and construction and Maintenance personnel asrequired.
May direct and trainassistant and/or auxiliary technicians.
Regularly performsthe functions of an Environmental Quality Specialist in IPM (approximately 75%of time) including (a) responding to call and performing scheduled services(b) planning treatments and formulating pesticides if required; and maintainingrelated equipment and (c) utilizing monitoring and assessment products; and d)maintaining records of service.
Specifies ordersreceives and inventories equipment and products.
Provides as neededservice after regular working hours.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Training/experiencein environmental health urban ecology and/or urban entomology.
Must be willing todevelop a working knowledge of Ecoexempt and EPAregistered pesticides and pestcontrol products and methods as well as Federal State and local regulations onpesticide application.
Must haveMassachusetts Pesticide Applicators License and attend recertificationprograms and obtain a Problem Animal Control Permit.
Must possess or bewilling to develop a working knowledge of the behavior and urban ecology ofvarious human commensal animals and parasites and their importance inhealthcare environments.
Must possess writtenand oral English language skills and basic mathematical skills in order to beable to write and maintain concise reports read and understand pest controlregulations and printed label instructions and make calculations for propermixing and application of pesticides.
Must possessinterpersonal and organizational skills to direct and coordinate the work ofothers.
Must have basiccomputer skills including the use of electronic communications and filecreation and storage.
Must have the abilityto understand building floor plans and HVAC and plumbing schematics.
Concentration in BiologyChemistry Entomology preferred.
Required:Five years of experience in integrated pest management required. Training/experience in environmental healthurban ecology and/or urban entomology required.
