Educational Assistant - PALS EPE - Temporary

EIPS is recruiting a temporary p arttime Educational Assistant at cole Parc lmentaire in their Play and Learn at School (PALS) program.

cole Parc lmentaire serves approximately 350 students in kindergarten to Grade 6 with 17 teaching staff and 16 support staff. The school is located in Fort Saskatchewan AB approximately 20 kilometres north of Sherwood Park AB.

cole Parc lmentaire offers singletrack French immersion programming. The school is a diverse French immersion learning community that inspires a love of learning encourages student individuality and promotes global citizenship in a safe caring and enriched environment. The school values the importance of strong learning partnerships among students teachers parents and the community while wanting each student to be successful to their greatest capacity. cole Parc lmentaire is also a designated Play and Learn at School (PALS) prekindergarten site within the Division.

• 30 hours per week 6.75 hours per day MondayThursday; 3.0 hours per day Friday)

The successful applicant will be working in the PALS (Play and Learn at School) classroom. The PALS program supports children from 3 to 5 years of age who have been assessed with severe and/or mild/moderate disabilities or developmental delays. PALS programs provide a natural preschool environment with the additional support needed to ensure learning success.

The successful applicant DOES NOT need to speak French or be bilingual as the PALS program in an English program within a French Immersion school.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Educational Assistants (EAs) assist teachers with many instructional and noninstructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EAs work as members of the school and student support team. EAs either work with a particular special needs student or a group of students within a class or in a special program.

The EA provides routine and repetitive instructional support. Under the direction of the teacher an EA assists the student in acquiring the education and skills necessary for advancement in the educational setting. To reach this objective the EA follows an individually prescribed learning program through team planning and working oneonone with the student(s). This involves routine recording basic charting and logging of observations. EAs may provide personal care and additional assistance for students depending on their particular needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma
• Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education would be an asset
• First Aid certificate would be an asset
• NonViolent Crisis Intervention training would be an asset
• Courses related to working with students with special needs would also be an asset
• Minimum of oneyear related experience

• Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work assignments
• Willingness to tend to the personal care needs of students if required

Note: This position might require lifting and carrying demands that require the ability to bend at the waist stoop and twist frequently the ability to lift between 10 to 50 lbs. the ability to carry push and pull between 10 to 50 lbs. and the ability to stand walk and sit frequently. The incumbent may be subject to the challenging behaviours of students.
