Tenure Track Faculty Position
Computer Science Department
College of Science
California State Polytechnic University Pomona invites applications for one tenure track faculty position in the Department of Computer Science. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 23campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Since its founding in 1938 Cal Poly Pomona students participate in an integrative experiential learning education that is inclusive relevant and values diverse perspectives and experiences. With a variety of degree programs in the arts humanities sciences engineering and professional disciplines the university is well known for its learnbydoing approach and Teacher Scholar Model.
The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1400acre campus which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg. Student Population. Cal Poly Pomona is the number one polytechnic university in the nation for student diversity and economic mobility. In Fall 2023 Cal Poly Pomona served more than 24000 students and close to 2000 graduate students mostly residents of California. College of Science
The Colleges mission is to educate mentor and inspire students through scientific inquiry and handson learning. It offers 15 undergraduate degree programs and six Masters degrees across seven academic departments that include: Biological Sciences Chemistry & Biochemistry Computer Science Geological Sciences Kinesiology & Health Promotion Mathematics & Statistics and Physics & Astronomy. Our Center for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (CEMaST) supports K16 education locally and nationally to increase STEM success and participation for all. The College of Science has approximately 150 fulltime faculty 40 staff and 4400 active majors. Our commitment to the teacherscholar model results in our college being the largest recipient of extramural grant funding on campus. Department
The Computer Science Department at Cal Poly Pomona has a strong ABET accredited B.S. program as well as a highquality M.S.program with 18tenured/tenuretrack faculty and 21 parttime lecturers. We embody the principle of an engaged teacherscholar model which emphasizes the learning by doing philosophy. We are an inclusive group of faculty from diverse backgrounds teaching a very diverse group of students. Faculty members share a strong commitment to collegiality collaboration dedicated teaching and innovative scholarship active participation in the shared governance of the department and robust intellectual engagement with each other and the students. Our teaching and research are supported by several computing laboratories some dedicated to instruction and others focusing on research. Our lab spaces (with Linux and Windows environments) provide open and inviting lab spaces for our students to interact with each other and feel part of a peer learning community. Minimum requirements include:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related area from an accredited university. (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and equity. - Demonstrated potential to establish an active research program with undergraduate and/or masters students.
- Demonstrated potential for excellent teaching of a broad range of undergraduate courses and graduate courses in Computer Science.
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Preference will be given to candidate in any of the areas of Generative AI Software Engineering Games Cyber Security Data Science and High Performance Computing.
- Candidates in other major computer science areas will also be considered and are thus highly encouraged to apply.
- University teaching experience including teaching assistant experience.
- Ability to develop/establish an active and sustainable research program based on their specialties.
- Experience of conducting scholarly research activities with undergraduate and/or graduate students.

- Final candidates being interviewed are expected to make a scholarly presentation to faculty and students and a teaching demonstration in a class (topics shall be suggested by the search committee).
