The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) is located at 24th Street and Van Buren in Phoenix Arizona. The Hospital operates twentyfour 24 hours per day three hundred sixtyfive 365 days per year. ASH operates two separately licensed hospitals on the campus which provide longterm inpatient psychiatric care to Arizonans who have been courtordered to receive psychiatric treatment through either the civil or criminal process. We focus on providing care to those who need longer treatment to achieve goals which could not be met with local treatment.

Our Civil Hospital provides care to those individuals who have been determined by the courts to require treatment pursuant to our civil commitment statutes. Often these individuals have received extensive local treatment before coming here. Our Forensic Hospital serves as the secure facility for those who have been determined by the court to either receive restoration to competency treatment or who have been found to be guilty expect insane for a violent offense.

Colocated on our 93acre campus is the Arizona Community Protection and Treatment Center (ACPTC). ACPTC is the only state facility (and one of only 20 nationwide) that actively treats individuals who have been courtordered to receive treatment for their sexual offenses. This program is licensed as a Behavioral Health Specialized Transitional Facility and is managed by the same Executive Team that manages the hospitals.

The Hospitals mission which guides all that we do is to Provide evidencebased recoveryoriented and traumainformed care to the individuals receiving care in order to facilitate their successful transition to the least restrictive alternative possible. We provide stateoftheart inpatient and residential psychiatric care in an environment of dignity and respect. Interdisciplinary care in all programs is delivered in collaboration with the patient family legal representatives and community providers with a focus on recovery and community reintegration.

Our hospitals are accredited by the Joint Commission (TJC) and our civil hospital is also certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). All our facilities are licensed through the Arizona Division of Licensing Services.

$116.34 per hour Board Certified Psychiatrist POOL

$119 per hour Double Board Certified Psychiatrist POOL

Job Summary:

The Psychiatrist POOL will be responsible for providing inpatient specialty psychiatric care to patients admitted to the Arizona State Hospital including: performing diagnostic examinations prescribing medications developing behavioral plans monitoring care and progress of the patient toward treatment and recovery goals; leading a multidisciplinary team overseeing the work of the team in developing and implementing a plan of care working with outpatient teams the patient families and community providers of care to coordinate a continuum of care for assigned patients; completing inpatient documentation preparation of reports for legal and administrative purposes; participating in hospital committees and in the development of policies and procedures and standards for mental health program services; working with other professionals in a recovery model including nurses social workers psychologists rehabilitation staff and other physicians and professional including physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

Job Duties:

Performs diagnostic examinations prescribes medications and monitors care and progress of patients toward treatment and recovery goals.
Conducts psychiatric evaluations diagnoses and treatment of seriously mentally ill patients committed to ASH.
Provides leadership for multidisciplinary treatment team and oversees the work of the team in developing and implementing a plan of care.
Works with other professionals in recovery model including nurses social workers psychologists rehabilitation staff physicians nurse practitioners physicians assistants. Attends hospital committees and medical staff meetings.
Completes required documentation prepares reports for legal and administration purposes
Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge:
Standards of psychiatric care including detailed understanding of the process and standards for the diagnosis treatment and management of mental disorders and current knowledge of evidence based treatment of psychiatric illnesses.
Performance Management (PM) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.

Psychotherapeutic and psychopharmaccologic skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Work experience in leading a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have experience working with the seriously mentally ill.

PreEmployment Requirements:

Requires an MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine; completion of a residency program in Psychiatry and board eligibility or board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Must possess a medical license to practice in the State of Arizona.
Must possess a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issues pursuant to A.R.S.411758.07 or must apply for a level one fingerprint clearance card within seven working days after beginning employment.

Driving is required for State Business.
Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current valid stateissued drivers license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R210207.11.

ARIZONA STATE HOSPITAL POOL PROGRAM:
Below is a list of expectations for all Pool employees
Maximum of 32 per pay period.
Employee should not work more than 20 hours per week for more than 19 weeks.
In accordance with State Personnel Rules (R25A307 a pool employee may not work more than 1500 hours in a calendar year.
Availability to work should be scheduled for a month at a time and should correspond to the Arizona State Hospital staffing needs. The pool employee is expected to provide their availability by the 1st of every month for the next month schedule (EX: For July schedule dates should be provided by June 1st) to arrange available shifts. If the pool employee is consistently unavailable to match the staffing office scheduling needs their pool agreement will be reviewed by the Chief Medical Officer.
The Pool employee is expected to work any unit within the hospital. Scheduling is completed on a unit base need.
Leave Temporary employees are eligible only for holiday pay subject to the provisions of R25AB601 administrative leave civic duty leave for the purpose of voting living donor leave and military leave.
If an employee works 20 or more hours per week for 20 weeks (need not be consecutive) within a fiscal year (July 1 June 30 he/she will be required to participate in ASRS. Once ASRS contributions start they will be required through the following June 30th regardless of any change in hours. Contributions will be required retroactive to the eligibility date.
