Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for directing the fiscal functioning of the Academy according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). In addition this individual is directly involved in providing strategic financial input and leadership. Additionally they enhance develop implement and enforce policies and procedures by way of systems that improve the overall operation effectiveness and financial condition of the Academy.

The internationally recognized Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) develops creative ethical leaders in science technology engineering and mathematics. As a teaching and learning laboratory created by the State of Illinois IMSA enrolls academically talented Illinois students (grades 1012 in its advanced residential college preparatory program. It also serves thousands of educators and students in Illinois and beyond through innovative instructional programs that foster imagination and inquiry.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable Accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This individual is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Oversee the Academys Business Office operations including but not limited to leading all accounting functions institutionwide budget development payroll procurement vouchering and purchase order processing management of PCard system contracting and statemandated financial reporting and compliance.
  • Advising the President of the Academy and the Board of Trustees on financial and business issues and needs
  • Assume the position of treasurer of the IMSA Board of Trustees
  • Lead the preparation of IMSAs annual external budget request and state reporting including Board of Higher Education budget tables Governors Office of Management and budget book and Illinois State Legislature budget tables.
  • Lead annual review and reallocation of appropriation to projects that address the Academys priority outcomes and other underfunded needs.
  • Provide and interpret reports of business operations including the formulation and maintenance of accounting policies preparation of financial statements and operating data coordination of systems and procedures and required special reports.
  • Ensue the financial integrity and compliance of IMSAs business and financial operations with statutory requirements and managing the Academys financial system applications policies and procedures.
  • Lead IMSAs annual financial and compliance audit including the preparation of annual GAAP packages and State of Illinois governmentwide and governmental fund financial statements reports and schedules.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academys strategic direction.
  • Ability to work irregular schedules including periodic evening and/or weekend hours
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum required skills and experience for this position include but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Masters degree in business administration school business management or comparable training
  • Eight years of relevant experience in an educational governmental private sector or other notforprofit institution
  • Certified CPA
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals and diverse populations
  • Ability to work independently resolve issues seek help when needed and work on concurrent projects
  • Proficient with computerized accounting software including configuration and utilization
  • Experienced user of common computer hardware (e.g. laptops) office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office budget software) mobile devices (e.g. phone) and common peripherals (e.g. printers others)
  • Must possess a valid drivers license
  • Ability to travel as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of State of IL procurement processes
  • Chief School Business Operations certification



WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This role generally requires mobility written and verbal communication hearing and visual capabilities finger dexterity repetitive motions loading unloading and moving materials/boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. However reasonable accommodations including assistive technology may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform such requirements.

COMPENSATION:

This position is a fulltime exempt 12month employmentatwill position. Salary regionally commensurate with training and experience in likeinstitutions with a range of $115000 to $150000. IMSA offers a comprehensive state benefits package (major medical dental vision and prescription) with rates foundhere a generous paid time off plan and a retirement plan through the State University Retirement System SURS. SURS is reciprocal with other Illinois public retirement systems such as the Teachers Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) and the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
