Shop Foreman

Job Description:

The Shop Foremans main responsibility is diagnosing adjusting repairing overhauling and performing service maintenance on utility forestry and construction equipment such as but not limited to excavators compact track loaders chippers stump grinders industrial grinders horizontal directional drills cable plows vacuum excavators cable pulling and blowing equipment utility trailers and forestry mulching equipment.

Duties also include directing coordinating and training Service Technicians in the performance of their daily work to provide quality repair of equipment in a timely and safe manner.

He is also responsible for customer service including meeting with customers taking customer calls regarding service problems on equipment opening and closing work orders scheduling equipment for repairs monitoring warranty work providing written service reports for warranty and customer work for proper billing and ordering parts from the parts department to accomplish repairs in a timely fashion.

Job Duties:

  • Effectively manages a team of service technicians to provide firstclass repairs and maintenance in a timely efficient costeffective manner.
  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects or ensure proper operating efficiency.
  • Repairs and overhauls machines as required based upon diagnostic work performed.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks and adjustments on such things as fluid levels grease requirements cooling systems hoses belts brakes tires tracks digging chains cutting bits booms; changes filters oils lubricants washes equipment with power washer and other maintenance operations.
  • Performs predelivery inspection (PDI) and setup of new units from the factory to prepare for delivery to customers.
  • Assists in the demonstration of products to customers as required.
  • Welds or cuts metal (broken parts and structural members) using electric or gas methods.
  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using appropriate measuring tools.
  • Troubleshoots hydraulic electric and mechanical systems to determine the cause of problems and determine the most effective way to repair defects.
  • Capable of using test equipment such as hydraulic gauges flow meters electrical test meters and vacuum gauges to diagnose equipment systems.
  • Capable of reading and understanding service manuals including hydraulic and electrical schematics. Capable of reading and understanding parts books and using computers to look up parts.
  • Selects and assigns staff ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotion.
  • Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures training is obtained.
  • Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work technique.
  • Ensures proper OSHA and other relevant regulations are followed for the safety of all employees.
  • As a facility manager he is responsible for the operation coordination and quality control of the repair facility.
  • Capable of using computers to diagnose systems that are equipped with computer software.
  • Capable of communicating with customers as required to assist in solving problems over the phone or in person to facilitate the repair of customer units.
  • Ability to communicate written information on workorders and ordering of parts.
  • Checkin and checkout rental machines as required explaining operation and maintenance of rental units to customers.
  • Load and unload equipment using forklifts.
  • Job duties require moving heavy objects.
  • Some jobs require exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Field service as required.
  • Keep tools equipment and work area clean organized and in good working condition.
  • Work safely by using proper tools and techniques in the performance of job.

Requirements:

  1. At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
  2. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  3. Ability to work normal working hours of 7:30 am to 4:30 pm weekdays.
