The Operations Manager will oversee and manage all operational aspects of maritime terminal activities including container handling cargo loading/unloading warehousing (open zone cold storage and covered warehouses) freight forwarding customs coordination and equipment operations. You will be responsible for logistics management manifest administration and ensuring efficient cargo handling and delivery. Leading a diverse operational team of over 80 employees you will maintain high standards of safety compliance productivity and service excellence.
Responsibilities
- Plan coordinate and supervise daily maritime terminal operations including:
- Cargo handling (loading/unloading)
- Warehousing and storage management (open cold and covered areas)
- Freight forwarding
- Oversee container movement and handling using specialized equipment such as reach stackers straddle carriers empty container handlers forklifts and heavy trucks.
- Liaise and coordinate closely with customs authorities port authorities and safety regulators to ensure compliance with local national and international regulations.
- Ensure operational efficiency through effective scheduling resource allocation and logistics management.
- Manage review and authorize cargo manifests ensuring accuracy completeness and regulatory compliance.
- Lead and develop an operational team of over 80 employees fostering a culture of safety efficiency accountability and teamwork.
- Implement safety policies and procedures regularly conducting safety audits and ensuring strict compliance to mitigate risks.
- Monitor and analyze operational metrics and KPIs implementing continuous improvements to optimize terminal productivity and reduce operational costs.
- Coordinate with customers and service providers to enhance service delivery promptly resolve operational issues and maintain high customer satisfaction.
- Prepare and submit regular operational reports and analysis to senior management.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelors degree in Logistics Supply Chain Management Maritime Operations Business Administration or a related field.
- An advanced degree or certifications in logistics or port management is advantageous.
- Experience:
- 810 years of experience in maritime terminal operations logistics or freight forwarding with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Demonstrated expertise in operating and managing heavy terminal equipment (reach stackers straddle carriers empty handlers forklifts heavy trucks).
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Indepth knowledge of customs clearance processes port operations logistics management and cargo handling.
- Proven ability to manage large teams demonstrating strong leadership communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding and adherence to safety standards and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver highquality results.
- Proficiency in relevant operational software systems and technology.
