JOB SUMMARY
As a Staff Applications Engineer you will be part of a highly skilled team supporting customers in designing state of the art microwave systems. You will be responsible for generating and communicating technical information about our products with customers directly and through publications. The new product introduction responsibility includes entering and managing product data in our database to create datasheets. The sustaining activities involve technical solutions performing measurements and communicating results to customers to solve complex technical issues.
This role is ideal for someone looking to further their technical knowledge and expertise in high frequency RF component engineering through a handson approach in a fastpaced dynamic development environment. This position reports to the VP of Applications Engineering.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Independently study technical phenomena that arise in the use of our products.
- Guide product and reliability engineering in the creation of product performance data reliability limits and production limits.
- Coordinate with the Design Product engineering CAD and reliability engineering teams to gather product performance reliability and mechanical data for customer use.
- Own datasheets product category definitions whitepapers application notes and technical notes on company website.
- Deliver training to the sales team and junior engineers.
- Consult with Sales Marketing and the Design teams to inform the company's R&D roadmap.
- Meet with customers to discuss technical issues directly.
- Understand the theory behind RF/Microwave testing and know how to run component level tests including but not limited to Sparameters Noise Figure/Temperature Conversion Loss Power Compression Harmonic Generation Intermodulation Distortion Spur Generation and Transient Response Time.
- Generate test data for all datasheet parameters as well as specific customer requested measurements covering DC to >125GHz.
- Troubleshoot test and measurement issues including equipment setup calibration and test conditions to confirm that testing is performed accurately. Creatively solve characterization problems with systematic solutions.
- Create and maintain advanced measurement setups such as phase noise RF power handling temperature varying and time domain measurements.
- Manage priorities and communicate regularly with VP of Applications Engineering on progress and challenges.
- Promote an ethicsbased business culture in the organization.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 58 years' experience working with RF products.
- Experience in technical customer facing roles is a strong plus.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Strong device physics background and good understanding of RF components (Mixers Passives Amplifiers Switches).
- Hands on experience working with RF and Electronic Test Equipment (Network Analyzer Spectrum Analyzer Signal Generator Power Meter Power Supplies Oscilloscope Multimeter etc. to characterize high frequency devices and modules.
- Experience with microelectronics prototyping interpreting assembly drawings and engineering specifications and a good knowledge of electronic components.
- Exposure to mechanical drafting tools in general and AutoCAD in particular is a plus.
- Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Experience in building software based tools is a plus.
- Commitment to work with a handson approach in a team atmosphere.
