Job Description

Columbia Universitys PreCollege Programs for High School Students is seeking qualified candidates to develop and teach oncampus courses during Summer 25. 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Instruction and Curriculum for PreCollege Programs PreCollege Instructors develop and deliver immersive noncredit courses for highachieving high school students. They guide and supervise students when classes are in session and write a holistic evaluation of each course participant after classes conclude. Course Description
Making urban areas livable sustainable and desirable is a top priority for governmental bodies economists business leaders realtors and many other key stakeholders. Shaping the way our society operates is a big job and its why urban planning is such a soughtafter career. Becoming an urban planner requires a combination of sophisticated skills that includes architecture engineering and design. Through this course students will explore the fundamentals of urban planning learn how to build effective communities and discuss the best practices of working with land (including infrastructure water and air) to design healthy happy and indemand habitats. Additionally students will explore how transportation business districts and environmental concerns impact development. By the end of the course students will have an acumen for discussing history theory and pressing social issues that impact both real estate and residents quality of life.

Note: This class will focus on this topic from a United States perspective.

Summer A: June 30th to July 18th  11:10am 1:00pm & 3:10pm 5:00pm EST (no class July 4th)

Responsibilities


Qualifications :

  • Graduate degree or equivalent professional or academic background
  • Expertise in the pertinent subject matter
  • Aptitude for teaching


Additional Information :

Hiring Salary 

  • Summer A & B (OnCampus): $7000 $9000
  • A onetime course development fee will be paid to first time instructors. Development fee rates are $1500 for 3week courses and $750 for all other courses.

Other Requirements

  • Please submit a resume inclusive of teaching experience as well as formal teaching evaluations (if available)
  • Applicants must have U.S. work authorization and will need to be in the U.S. while teaching. Employment eligibility is contingent upon valid work authorization. Individuals on STEM OPT or holders of the following visa types are ineligible to teach PreCollege: B1 E3 H1B J1 and O1.
  • Applicants may not hold a concurrent appointment with Columbia for the duration of their appointment
  • Once hired applicants are required to submit to a third party background check and complete Protection of Minors training in addition to other training(s) mandated by the University and PreCollege Program
