Job Description

Purpose of Position


The Head of Procurement is a new role responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise wide procurement strategy in a 2bn turnover company to support the businesss objectives including defining the purchasing policy and processes and managing a high performing team of procurement experts.

Key Tasks / Areas of Responsibility

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute an enterprise wide procurement strategy aligned with the companys overall business objectives focusing on cost reduction compliance risk mitigation supplier relationship management and sustainability.

  • Category Management: Lead the development and implementation of category management strategies across all business spend categories identifying opportunities for cost savings consolidation and value creation.

  • Supplier Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers negotiating favourable terms and conditions ensuring performance and fostering innovation and Collaboration.

  • Compliance and Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain including supplier financial stability geopolitical risks and supply disruptions. Implement robust risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Define compliance due diligence requirements and audit responsibilities.

  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a highperforming procurement team fostering a culture of collaboration continuous improvement and results orientation. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.

  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organisation including operations finance legal and sustainability to ensure alignment and support for procurement initiatives.

  • Performance Management: Establish clear KPIs and performance metrics to track the effectiveness of procurement strategies and initiatives. Monitor and report on procurement performance to the Ops Board and SLT.


Qualifications :

Skills and Competencies

  • Experience: Significant experience in a senior / managerial procurement role preferably within logistics or transportation.

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of strategic sourcing and procurement processes.

  • Leadership and team management: Ability to lead and motivate a team of procurement professionals fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.

  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with internal stakeholders suppliers and senior management.

  • Influencing and persuasion: Ability to influence key decisionmakers and gain buyin for procurement strategies and initiatives.

  • Problem solving and decisionmaking: Strong analytical and problem solving skills to address complex challenges and make informed decisions.

  • Ethics and compliance: Upholding the highest ethical standards and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies.
