Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer - Operational Scheduling to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring smooth and efficient operations across the GCC grid by preparing operational plans, coordinating maintenance activities, optimizing power schedules, and supporting outage management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare and issue daily and weekly operational plans for Control Engineers.
  • Optimize power exchange schedules through offline studies.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities between internal teams and Member States.
  • Process and manage planned and unplanned outage requests.
  • Prepare switching sequences for outages, restorations, and equipment commissioning.
  • Monitor network performance, report variations, and assess outage impacts.
  • Analyze operational data, incidents, and system operations to produce comprehensive reports.
  • Contribute to seasonal reports, contingency plans, and system studies.
  • Review consultant reports, system studies, and new project scopes.
  • Collaborate with Member States on short-term operational planning.
  • Assist in the development and optimization of operational strategies and procedures.
  • Address and mitigate potential reliability issues arising from RES variability.
  • Optimization and Efficiency
    Process Optimization: Continuously analyze operational processes and schedules to identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
    Time Management: Ensure that tasks and projects are completed within designated timeframes, optimizing time and resource allocation.
    Cost Optimization: Focus on reducing operational costs through more efficient scheduling and resource utilization.
    Monitoring and Reporting
    Track Performance: Monitor the progress of scheduled activities to ensure they are completed on time and within budget, tracking performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
    Analyze Data: Collect and analyze data to assess the efficiency of operational scheduling, identifying areas for improvement.
    Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on scheduling efficiency, operational performance, and any discrepancies between planned and actual performance.
    Compliance: Ensure that all scheduling activities comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.

Desired candidate profile

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.

Skills
Strong understanding of power systems operations, outage management, and grid scheduling.
Excellent analytical skills with experience in WAMS, DFR, and energy management systems.
Having experience in RES scheduling
Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Experienced with PSS/E.
Operational Scheduling and Planning
Create Schedules: Develop and implement operational schedules for production, maintenance, and service activities, ensuring alignment with business goals and project timelines.
Resource Allocation: Ensure that the necessary resources (personnel, equipment, and materials) are available as per the operational schedule.
Capacity Planning: Evaluate current capacity and workload to create schedules that optimize the use of available resources while ensuring operational efficiency.
Short-term and Long-term Planning: Develop both short-term and long-term schedules, taking into account immediate operational needs and future requirements.
Adjustments and Flexibility: Adjust schedules as needed in response to unforeseen disruptions, resource changes, or project delays.
Coordination Across Departments
Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with departments such as production, maintenance, logistics, and engineering to align scheduling efforts with operational needs and resource availability.
Stakeholder Communication: Regularly update stakeholders (including management, teams, and clients) on the status of operational schedules, changes, or delays.
Conflict Resolution: Resolve scheduling conflicts by balancing competing demands and priorities, ensuring minimal disruption to overall operations.
