Are you ready to lead a team of talented modellers and help us shape the future of the water industry Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Environment team as a Principal or Associate Flood Forecasting Modeller today!
At AECOM were at the forefront of innovation delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through longterm partnerships with key clients. We have secured places on major frameworks with the Environment Agency Wessex Water Anglian Water National Highways Southern Water and South West Water. As well as our existing major infrastructure clients we have a large pipeline of work which we would love you to be part of.
You will be based in one of our rapidly growing UK offices whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. Youll be a senior technical resource to lead small teams through delivering real time flood forecasting projects and proactively aim to develop our offering mainly to the Environment Agency. While this role is primarily for flood forecasting you may also be involved in nonreal time modelling and hydrology projects.
Heres what youll do:
- Deliver: Produce or lead the production of Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports including reviewing the quality of existing models and hydrometric data. Develop calibrate and check flood forecasting models (using PDM and Flood Modeller).
- Technical Expert: Non real time modelling and hydrological analysis; using packages such as Flood Modeller ICM HECRAS or MIKE 11 and FEH hydrological methods. Produce and review highquality technical reports documenting model build and uncertainties in the model build process.
- Quality: Use AECOMs project management systems to deliver highquality outputs to our clients in line with the agreed programme and budget. Keep up to date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services.
- Collaborate: Build relationships with our clients and with colleagues across other technical disciplines to develop our existing offering.
- Lead: Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development. Lead and input into tenders for our key clients.
Were a closeknit team of engineers technicians hydrologists hydraulic modellers and project managers who regularly to check in share news and plan work. We work hard to give our team development opportunities whether that is a secondment to see the clients perspective an assignment to spend time on site to manage a construction contract or arranging training to allow you to grow.

Qualifications :
Ready to push the limits of whats possible
Heres what were looking for:
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline.
- Significant experience in flood forecasting modelling (Flood Modeller).
- Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements in preparing flood forecasting models to be compatible with their Incident Management Forecasting Systems.
- Understanding and evidence of applying and calibrating hydrological models in flood forecasting; including MuskinghamCunge and Probability Distribution Model.
- Experience of processing and analysing hydrometric data including gauge rating reviews.
- Confident using GIS including QGIS ArcGIS and / or MapInfo.
