Job Description
We are looking for a seasoned underwriter with a background in payments due diligence and financial analysis to join our Platforms Underwriting team in London. You will be part of a team that is responsible for underwriting applications for customers utilizing Checkout.coms solution for platforms primarily Payment Facilitators Marketplaces and Staged Digital Wallet Operators. This is a team which focuses on analysis relevant to Customer Due Diligence Enhanced Due Diligence Business Model Credit and Financial Analysis. This role offers a unique exposure to our core business areas collaborating closely with our key internal players (Commercial Compliance Risk Legal teams and Senior Management) and our high value merchants and partners.
How youll make an impact
- Leveraging experience you will conduct business model analysis and a holistic assessment of a customers risk profile inline with internal policy guidelines card scheme rules and local regulations.
- Conduct customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence analysis on prospective customers including KYC KYB PEP Sanctions and Adverse Media screening.
- Conduct proficient analysis of P&L balance sheet and cash flow statements of Platform models and demonstrate a competent understanding of accounting principles.
- Prepare persuasive summaries to internal stakeholders and risk committees including identifying mitigants and making balanced recommendations for each deal.
- Represent the Platform Underwriting team in leading and attending customer calls and meetings alongside Sales or Account Managers.
- Approve individual and teammates credit submissions in line with approval authority.
- Identify operational issues and areas for improvement and make detailed recommendations on how to improve the merchant onboarding experience.
- Foster a culture of collaboration with key internal stakeholders in particular Sales/Account Managers and first and second line Risk and Compliance personnel and Legal.
- Act as a mentor to junior team members through training initiatives and credit approvals.
- Contribute to department and crossfunctional projects as required.
Qualifications :
Qualifications
- 5 years of work experience related to due diligence merchant underwriting or equivalent underwriting work.
- Subject matter expertise in AML/CTF and/or underwriting and financial analysis with demonstrated ability to make sound judgments balancing risk and reward.
- Ability to continually monitor and manage competing priorities and adjust accordingly.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Possess a customer first approach to delivering creative solutions for our customers and will contribute to cross team collaboration and building a One Team culture.
- Competent escalation management acting with urgency to ensure escalations are prioritized owned and resolved effectively.
- You have a passion for operational improvement initiatives and can contribute to broader department initiatives and projects.
- Leading by example youll demonstrate our core Values and live out our Operating Principles in everything you do.
- Previous experience coaching or mentoring is desirable although not required.
- Preferable if the candidate possesses expertise from a Payments or Fintech background.
Experience youll bring to the role
- Work in a team that uses qualitative and quantitative targets to measure performance.
- Demonstrable experience related to concustomer due diligence enhanced due diligence merchant underwriting credit insurance and/or commercial lending.
- Expertlevel financial statement analysis and credit exposure assessment ability.
- Experience with concise written and oral presentations and ability to deliver complex messages in a clear and focused manner.
- A highly analytical team player who loves to evaluate financial and business risks.
- Domain expertise within the payments industry will be preferable.
