Job Description

A Day in the Life:

PRT is seeking a fulltime Operations Manager to be based in Quesnel BC at PRT Quesnel.  As a member of the local management team the Operations Manager has the opportunity to work with the most innovative conifer seedling producer in the industry with a focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. Overseeing all aspects of greenhouse and open compound seedling operations the Operations Manager is required to lead and give direct supervision to the nursery team to ensure nursery efficiency.  This includes but is not limited to; sowing thinning lifting blackout cold storage & shipping. This position is responsible for directing personnel in accordance with operational work plans and cultural requirements with a focus on employee productivity record keeping and ensuring both safe working conditions and quality standards are met.  

Key Accountabilities of the Operations Manager:

  • Supervise greenhouse and open compound seedling production
  • Assist the Nursery Manager with planning and achieving production targets
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the facility and equipment
  • Finalize Inventory
  • Keep neat and accurate records
  • Manage labor force
  • Correspond with customers
  • Follow and enforce safe work practices
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
  • Set targets (i.e. production timelines) and evaluate achievement

About the team:

The Operations Manager will lead a team of Nursery Workers and will report to the Nursery Manager at PRT Quesnel.


Qualifications :

Required/Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

  • A bachelors degree or diploma in horticulture agriculture or forestry or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 or more years of horticulture or crop production experience
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Capability of performing manual work both indoor and outdoor and in varying weather conditions
  • Proficient understanding of production processes quality control principles and safety regulations
  • Strong planning organization and time management skills
  • Good problemsolving skills with the ability to conduct a root cause analysis.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Robust computer skills with proficiency Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Work Outlook)
  • Communicate with honesty kindness and respect
