Job Description

Your responsibilities

We are developing and constructing novel hightemperature superconductor (HTS) coils for nextgeneration highfield accelerator magnets and Superconducting Linksup to 120 metres longsuperconducting power transmission lines capable of transporting up to 100000 A from power converters in an underground service gallery to the new magnets of the HighLuminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HLLHC).

We are seeking motivated technicians to strengthen our team in the development and construction of these coils devices and systems. If you are an electrical technician interested in working within a dynamic team on the cabling splicing and testing of hightemperature superconducting (HTS) cables and coils as well as the instrumentation and assembly of superconducting current leads and cryostats this role might be for you. The position also involves the realisation of industrial data acquisition and control systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Testing of HTS tapes (REBCO tapes) at cryogenic temperatures
  • Respooling HTS tapes and cabling HTS cables
  • Splicing and testing HTS cables
  • Winding splicing and testing HTS coils
  • Integration of HTS cables into current leads
  • Installation of instrumentation for current leads cryostats and HTS coils
  • Performing electrical tests including highvoltage assessments
  • Developing wiring and testing industrial data acquisition and control systems
