Job Description:
Infrastructure Engineers implement manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical virtual networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services.
Job Duties and Responsibilities may include:
- Build deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure in Azure.
- Follow best practice to provide security maintain system uptime and optimise cost.
- Drive and contribute to infrastructure improvements and automation initiatives.
- Develop and maintain supporting documentation of solutions and production systems.
- Production support through troubleshooting and resolving issues as required.
- Provide design input for new solutions as required.
- Ensure all infrastructure components meet proper performance and capacity standards.
- Review code and provide constructive feedback.
Requirements
Technical Skills:
Candidates are required to have one/more of the following:
Experience level Required: APS6 equivalent
Security Clearance: PDG is seeking candidates with an NV1 or TSPV security clearance.
- Minimum 3 years experience in an Infrastructure Engineer role or similar
- Holds a certification in virtualization accreditation and experience using VMWare or Azure (desirable)
- Solid technical background in hosted services environments including hardware software virtualization and storage.
- Knowledge and experience within Private and/or Public Cloud technologies including VMware product suite Microsoft Azure (desirable)
- Solid technical background in hosted services environments including hardware software virtualization storage and container orchestration.
- Practical knowledge of Operating Systems Windows Server 20xx RHEL 8/9 Ubuntu 22/24 including tools for their administration.
- Working experience with TCP/IP networking (DNS DHCP etc).
Essential criteria
1. AVMT 4 Availability management: Level 4 (SFIA) Analyses service and component availability reliability maintainability and serviceability. Contributes to the availability management process and its operation. Performs defined availability management tasks. Ensures that services and components meet and continue to meet all of their agreed performance targets and service levels. Implements arrangements for disaster recovery and documents recovery procedures. Conducts testing of recovery procedures.
2. ITOP 4 IT infrastructure: Level 4 (SFIA) Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. Contributes to the planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates. Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines. Uses infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics. Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards. Investigates and enables the resolution of operational issues. Provides reports and proposals for improvement to specialists users and managers.
3. PBMG 3 Problem management: Level 3 (SFIA) Investigates problems in systems processes and services. Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.
4. DESN 4 Systems design: Level 4 (SFIA) Designs system components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures design standards patterns and methodology. Identifies and evaluates alternative design options and tradeoffs. Creates multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders and to handle functional and nonfunctional requirements. Models simulates or prototypes the behaviour of proposed system components to enable approval by stakeholders. Produces detailed design specifications to form the basis for the construction of systems. Reviews verifies and improves own designs against specifications.

Adopts and adapts system design methods, tools and techniques. Contributes to development of system design policies, standards and selection of architecture components. 3. HSIN 5 - Takes responsibility for installation and/or decommissioning projects. Provides effective team leadership, including information flow to and from the customer during project work. Develops and implements quality plans and method statements. Monitors the effectiveness of installations and ensures that appropriate recommendations for change are made. 4. SINT 5 - Plans and drives activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities including automation and continuous integration. Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes to create a robust integration framework. Provides authoritative advice and guidance on any aspect of systems integration. Leads integration work in line with the agreed system and service design. Assesses risks and takes preventative action. Measures and monitors applications of standards.
