Were looking for a hands-on System Administrator / Server Engineer to serve as the primary technical resource for our client: a European multinational financial data vendor - supporting their Tokyo operations from the inside.
Its a stable long-term engagement where youll split your time between keeping things running smoothly and driving meaningful technical projects forward. Youll work closely with global teams but locally youll be the one people rely on.

- Location: Tokyo-based (On-site/Hybrid as required by local needs)
- Work Pattern: Standard business hours (09:00 18:00)
Environment & Technology Stack
- Infrastructure Size: 20 servers / 20 endpoints
- OS Split: 65% RHEL Linux 35% Windows Server
- Virtualization: VMware (User-level familiarity is sufficient)
What Youll be Doing
Operations & Administration
- Run monthly patching cycles across Windows and Linux environments (6 key servers)
- Manage and troubleshoot a compact but critical footprint: 20 servers and 20 endpoints
- Provide desktop and user support when needed
- Investigate and resolve application-level issues and server problems
- Handle on-site datacenter tasks and minor admin duties
- Coordinate with global teams across time zones
Project Work & Evolution
- System Updates: Implement configuration changes execute testing and deploy system updates.
- Migration Support: Assist with the migration to a new backend processing tool (including configuration testing and vendor/team coordination).
- Documentation: Maintain accurate up-to-date documentation of the infrastructure processes and configuration changes.
Automation
- Develop and maintain basic scripts to automate routine tasks (Python is highly preferred; Bash or PowerShell is acceptable).
Qualifications
Technical Skills & Experience
- OS Administration: Strong proven experience administering both RHEL Linux and Windows Server.
- Scripting: Practical hands-on scripting capability (Python Bash or PowerShell).
- Virtualization: Basic operational familiarity with VMware.
Soft Skills & Language
- Language: English (Fluent/Business level) is required for global team coordination. Japanese language skills are optional but welcome.
- Autonomy: Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a small local environment.
- Versatility: Comfortable wearing multiple hats shifting easily between routine operations and project execution.
- Communication: Solid coordination skills and a disciplined approach to documentation.
Applicants MUST be a resident of Japan and be available to work full-time in Tokyo.
