Increasing humanitarian needs climate change environmental degradation and supply chain disruptions are creating new challenges for global humanitarian and development organizations. Sustainable and resilient supply chains are essential to ensure that humanitarian and development assistance is delivered efficiently while minimizing negative environmental and social impacts.

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking Supply Chain Officers (Sustainability) to support the design and implementation of initiatives that improve sustainability resilience and operational efficiency across supply chain systems. Successful candidates will contribute to projects partnerships research and technical support activities that help WFP adopt more sustainable approaches to procurement logistics and supply chain management.

The Supply Chain Officers (Sustainability) will work within the Sustainable Supply Chain Unit at WFPs headquarters in Rome Italy. Positions will be based either in the Rome HQ or remote. We are recruiting for positions at both Consultancy Level I and Consultancy Level II depending on levels of responsibility and accountability. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide technical support to Country Offices to implement regional supply chain environmental strategies achieve corporate supply chain-related sustainability milestones design and implement supply chain sustainability projects while ensuring alignment with wider programme activities.
• Coordinate and support the development update and implementation of policies guidelines plans and procedures that strengthen sustainability resilience efficiency agility reliability and quality in WFP supply chain operations.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal WFP divisions and external partners including private sector UN agencies NGOs and governments to ensure alignment and collaboration on WFP sustainability efforts.
• Seek partnership and funding opportunities including in-kind and cash contributions through proposal development and effective positioning of projects with existing and potential partners.
• Identify innovative financing and procurement modalities to incentivize sustainable practices.
• Conduct research on trends and solutions from humanitarian and development fields academia and the private sector and translate findings into concise analysis and practical recommendations for WFP operations.
• Document lessons learned and best practices for scaling environmentally and socially sustainable supply chain initiatives including through humanitarian clusters UN80 and other inter-agency and humanitarian system mechanisms.
• Support frameworks guidelines and tools including WFPs ECODASH environmental impact measurement system to monitor manage and report environmental and other sustainability impacts of WFPs supply chain.
• Identify opportunities to integrate social sustainability considerations into WFPs approach to supply chain sustainability in line with donor requirements and UN system-wide policy trends.
• Provide technical assistance guidance and training to Country Offices and partners on supply chain sustainability initiatives partnerships communications and knowledge management.
• Support other thematic areas within the Supply Chain Division and perform other related duties as required.

Advanced university degree in Environmental Science Supply Chain Management Business Administration Engineering International Development International Relations or another relevant field; or first university degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

• CST I / Level I Consultancy: At least three years of relevant professional experience.
• CST II / Level II Consultancy: At least five years of relevant professional experience related to sustainability in the multilateral sector.

Please note that the level of the consultancy assignment will be defined by the complexity of the Terms of Reference and not based on the candidates experience.

Environmental and social sustainability supply chain management logistics and/or procurement project management partnerships planning and organization analysis problem solving effective communication stakeholder engagement and knowledge management.

Essential requirements:

Experience working on environmental and/or social sustainability initiatives within a supply chain context.

• Experience in supply chain management procurement logistics operations circular economy climate action sustainable sourcing or related fields.

Desirables:

• Experience conducting research policy analysis or technical assessments.
• Experience managing projects and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
• Experience developing guidance materials training programmes or knowledge products.
• Experience building partnerships with governments international organizations NGOs donors or private sector organizations.
• Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks impact measurement methodologies or ESG-related approaches.
• Experience working in developing countries humanitarian settings or international development programmes.
• Consulting or advisory experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in multicultural environments.
• Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the World Food Programme.

• Fluency in oral and written English including strong technical writing skills is required.
• Intermediate knowledge of a second official UN language particularly French Spanish and/or Arabic is highly desirable.
