Senior Staff Application Engineer
Job Summary
Help define the next generation of power delivery solutions for AI and high-performance computing from architecture exploration and proof of concept through silicon product definition and laboratory validation.
As a Senior Staff Application Engineer in the Renesas Power Computing Business Unit you will operate at the intersection of power system architecture converter design and semiconductor product definition. You will explore state-of-the-art and emerging DC/DC converter topologies that address the rapidly increasing power demands of modern AI and compute ASICs. This fast-moving market rewards strong technical judgment inventive thinking quick execution and adaptability.
You will work cross-functionally with Systems Engineering IC Design Applications Packaging Technology and Marketing this highly visible technical role you will provide forward-looking expertise across electrical design magnetics power electronics control and digital technologies while influencing product roadmaps and solution strategy.
You will join an experienced team focused on power converter architecture implementation and validation. Your contribution will span the complete development path: creating converter proof-of-concept platforms developing detailed simulation models translating system requirements into new silicon product specifications and optimizing solutions for power density reliability cost scalability and flexibility.
What You Will Do
- Define and evaluate next-generation power conversion architectures for AI and high-performance computing platforms.
- Lead technology pathfinding topology studies and proof-of-concept development for high-performance DC/DC converters.
- Develop detailed electrical and system-level models using SIMPLIS and other appropriate simulation environments.
- Translate system-level and customer requirements into device-level specifications that support new silicon product definition.
- Plan and execute converter characterization including data collection data analysis and correlation between simulation and bench measurements.
- Drive the progressive tuning and improvement of converter performance throughout the development lifecycle.
- Develop automated measurement characterization and validation setups to improve speed repeatability and data quality.
- Guide schematic and PCB implementation with particular focus on component placement power-stage layout signal integrity thermal performance and manufacturability.
- Customize proposed solutions to address customer application requirements and support technical engagement with key stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership across disciplines and communicate complex findings clearly to engineering product and business teams.
Qualifications :
- 10 years of relevant experience in power conversion power management semiconductor applications or related system design.
- Strong experience in the design modeling development and laboratory validation of high-performance power converters across low-voltage and high-voltage domains.
- Deep understanding of control-loop design stability analysis transient response and implementation constraints.
- Solid knowledge of resonant and non-resonant power conversion topologies including the ability to evaluate topology trade-offs at system level.
- Experience with magnetic component selection or design and an understanding of the relationship between magnetics switching frequency efficiency thermal performance and power density.
- Ability to move effectively from concept and simulation to hardware implementation measurement and product definition.
- Broad technical perspective combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Masters degree in Electrical Engineering Power Electronics or a closely related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
Preferred Experience
- Power delivery architectures for AI accelerators high-performance computing data-center platforms or other high-current digital loads.
- Multiphase buck converters point-of-load regulation voltage regulator architectures or high-current power stages.
- SIMPLIS or equivalent power electronics simulation tools.
- Python or similar languages for measurement automation data processing and visualization.
- Semiconductor product definition customer-facing technical support or cross-functional technology development.

The expected annual pay range for this position is . Please note that the final offer will depend on factors such as geographic location relevant experience and the candidates skill set. This role is also eligible for a bonus.
