JOB TITLE: External Engagement and Partnerships Officer

DURATION: 11 months

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: For more than 60 years WFP has been the leading organization in supporting countries with their school meals programmes which are widely prevalent throughout the 2020 WFP launched a 10-year strategy for school meals. WFP advocates for the universal adoption of school meals programmes as a safety net that helps increase childrens access to education and learning opportunities and strengthens their health and nutrition. WFP focused increasingly on helping countries to establish and maintain nationally owned countries still requiring WFPs operational support it implements school meals programmes with clear hand over 2021 WFP efforts to helping countries to establish and maintain nationally owned programmes as well as implementing school meals programmes with clear transition strategies were taken to the next level with the launch of the School Meals Coalition (SMC) at the Food Systems Summit. WFP ensures the Secretariat of the SMC. With more than 110 member countries the Coalition has catalyzed global commitment and government leadership around one common goal: ensuring that every child receives a healthy nutritious meal in school by 2030. More than 150 partner organizations have also joined to support governments in meeting their national commitments. Five multi-partner Coalition initiatives support governments and address areas that had been bottlenecks in scaling and improving school meal programmes: the Research Consortium for School Health and Nutrition the Sustainable Financing Initiative the Data and Monitoring Initiative Cities Feeding the Future and the School Meals Accelerator. Through this vacancy announcement WFP School Meals Social Protection and Nutrition Service (PPGS) is seeking to hire a consultant to serve as External Engagement and Partnerships Officer for the School Meals Coalition Secretariat Team.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the School Meals Coalition Secretariat Coordinator and working closely with other Secretariat team members the consultant will support the engagement of Coalition Partners in the Coalition and serve as the main focal point of the School Meals Coalition Secretariat for New York-related engagements. This includes: 1. Supporting the engagement with the School Meals Coalition Partners Group. Contributing to the organisation of the meetings of the SMC Partners Group (5 per year) in a way that advances the agenda of the Coalition. This includes preparing briefs power point presentations talking points and notes-for-the-record. Mapping the offer of services of partners and hep connect them with governments requiring these services /expertise as relevant. This may include planning and rolling out a short survey/mapping exercise to understand the partners offer of services Leading the provision of a range of support services including meeting follow-up actions resolution of issues quality and timely availability of SMC materials. 2. Organize a virtual SMC event (to take place in first quarter of 2027) that enables SMC members and partners to share achievements and best practices. Developing the concept note format and agenda. This may include a call for proposals for themes/sessions. Coordinating specific sessions. This requires coordinating with involved SMC members and partners and developing the materials required such as slide decks talking points and notes for the record and organising briefing sessions Coordinating communication aspects with the Advocacy and Communication teams 3. Engaging with New York-based partners and government representatives of the School Meals Coalition Task Force and Working Group. This includes: Acting as the main focal point of the Coalition for the representatives of its members in New York liaising with the representatives of the co-chairs through WFP New York office to ensure they are updated on the developments of the Coalition and the opportunities for engagement. Supporting the organization of the meetings of the SMC Task Force representatives in New York as required in a way that advances the agenda of the Coalition in close coordination with the WFP New York office. This includes helping set the agenda preparing briefs/ talking points presentations notes-for-the-record for approval and dissemination to the appropriate audience. Ensuring the provision of a range of support services including meeting follow-up actions resolution of issues and quality and timely availability of SMC materials. 4. Identifying and supporting advocacy opportunities to position school meals on policy processes and key events in New York such as the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) UN Food Systems Summit related events as well as any other relevant events for the Coalition. This includes: Proactively mapping and seizing advocacy opportunities and events that can help accelerate the school meals agenda. Beyond events this includes keeping abreast of relevant policy processes for school meals and recommending appropriate engagement. Acting as main focal point for UNGA it the School Meals Coalition Secretariat Coordination team. 5. Performing any other duties in support of the School Meals Coalition Secretariat team.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

Deliverables to include: School Meals Coalition virtual event organized successfully SMC Partners meetings organized (Target: five per year). Timely provision of inputs and smooth coordination with other teams to position school meals at UNGA and other relevant events/processes in New York. Contribute to the overall external engagement communications and advocacy efforts of the School Meals Coalition Secretariat. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Education: Advanced University degree in Social Science Political Science Journalism International Relations Public Relations Communications or relevant field or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses. Experience: Minimum of 4 years of related experience in partnerships or advocacy. Knowledge & Skills: Strong knowledge of sustainable development project management partnerships and advocacy. Strong negotiation and communication skills. Proven track record of executing successful high-level activities and events for diverse stakeholders. Understanding of UN processes and key actors. Knowledge of school meals landscape /key partners is a strong asset. Ability design of clear and compelling advocacy briefs/products. Understanding of the dynamics of intra-organizational communications within large international organizations. Excellent oral and writing skills. Prior experience in writing and editing long-form content including but not limited to briefs analytical notes and concept notes Well organized and detail oriented. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Collaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy.

Languages: Working arrangements: Fluency (level C) in English language (mother tongue is a plus). Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic Chinese French Russian Spanish. This position is expected to be based in Rome.
