ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the worlds largest humanitarian agency working to create a world with zero hunger. WFP also works with partners to strengthen the resilience of communities most vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition through long-term development programmes aimed at boosting food security local economies education employment and gender equality. While hunger and malnutrition are the worlds largest solvable issues the needs are still immense and growing. 821 million people in the world suffer from chronic hunger.
The Private Partnerships Division (PSP) is responsible for engaging the private sector (corporations individuals foundations) through high-impact partnerships in support of WFPs strategic priorities and through individual giving to build and retain support from the general public worldwide. To get to a world with Zero Hunger faster WFP has significantly increased resources in recent years from donor governments. We are now investing in and grow private sector fundraising to reach more people.
WFPs private sector strategy () proposes to dramatically increase income from individuals to help reach more people and get to Zero Hunger faster using new digital engagement tools to reach audiences across the globe in a flexible and cost-effective way.
Traditional individual fundraising in our sector was primarily conducted through offline channels and implemented through national fundraising operations. The individual fundraising market now looks very different with the vast majority of potential donors having a digital presence and comfort with transacting online. WFP has a unique opportunity to define its approach amid this digital change and leapfrog peers through its creation of a digital-led fundraising strategy that engages people worldwide from one centralised team. Our digital focus elevates the importance of an agile approach to delivering opportunities to engage.
INDIVIDUAL FUNDRAISING
In the first year of the new growth strategy the IG team recruited 130k new supporters (both regular monthly givers and single givers) from over 190 countries primarily through digital advertising (Facebook and Search) with some local DRTV testing. Annual income more than quadrupled from $3m in FY19 to $24m in FY21 with growth ambitions going far beyond this.
Our focus is a digital-first strategy working through a centralised global team recruiting supporters primarily through digital channels and building an outstanding supporter experience through a multi-channel loyalty programme that delivers a best-in-class donor experience. The programme now recruits donors in English French German Spanish and Arabic with language capabilities also including Korean and it delivers the supporter experience through email SMS WhatsApp outbound telephone and Facebook.
PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
This role will play a critical part in our supporter experience (SX) team within Individual Giving team by improving how all our email activity contributes to building a best in class supporter experience and drive stronger engagement and loyalty rates. The role will be comfortable developing onboarding journeys and annual calendar-based email communications as well as running ongoing testing and optimization activities.
ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Delivery and execution of the email fundraising component of WFPs Supporter Experience programme
Deliver scheduled email sends according to schedule (from landing page development to troubleshooting and final send) and in accordance with the Individual Givings objective to deliver a best-in-class supporter experience
Build and update supporter journeys on Marketing Cloud
Implement testing roadmap for email marketing aimed at optimising performance across core metrics
Work closely with the Global SX Email Specialist and other SX specialists to ensure content is properly briefed and received on time for the email programme
Lead email troubleshooting process and coordinate across the team to ensure emails are sent on time and to a high standard
Optimisation of email marketing programme
Identify areas for development linked to increased performance and income
Share email marketing analysis on a monthly basis so learnings are captured and the effectiveness of the programme is continuously being measuring and optimised
Other
Extend support to create and manage process notes relevant to the assigned roles and deliveries
Keep abreast if industry developments and incorporate them into the programme

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education
Advanced University degree in marketing or other relevant field - or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings.
Work history
At least 3 years progressive experience running email marketing in a fundraising or marketing environment
Non-profit and/or commercial experience
Experience of strategic planning of email programmes with good tactical hands on experience of testing/optimization preference of working on global email programmes
Hard skills and soft skills
Knowledge and demonstrable experience of working with Salesforce Marketing Cloud
