We are currently recruiting a Staff Nurse Ophthalmology to join a leading hospital in Limerick Ireland.
Staff Nurse Ophthalmology
Employment Type: Full-time 37.5 hours per week Specified Purpose
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients undergoing ophthalmic procedures and plan deliver and accurately document high-quality nursing care in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards.
- Ensure all patient records and clinical documentation are completed accurately and maintained in line with hospital guidelines.
- Deliver patient-centred care while collaborating effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Maintain a safe clean and supportive clinical environment that promotes patient safety and wellbeing.
- Perform effectively within the operating theatre as a scrub circulating or anaesthetic nurse demonstrating strong leadership communication and teamwork skills.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies ensuring best practices are consistently followed.
- Complete all required safety checks thoroughly and document them accurately in accordance with hospital procedures.
- Collaborate closely with ophthalmic surgeons to prepare the operating theatre position patients safely and ensure the availability of appropriate instruments and equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the specialised nursing care required for ophthalmology patients before during and after surgical procedures.
- Operate clinical equipment safely and efficiently reporting faults or maintenance issues promptly through the appropriate channels.
- Monitor and manage clinical supplies assisting with stock control while promoting the efficient use of resources.
- Respond confidently and effectively during emergency situations providing appropriate clinical support.
- Escalate clinical concerns promptly to the Consultant Anaesthetist or Senior Nursing Management when necessary.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with all data protection and privacy regulations.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues and other hospital departments to ensure seamless patient care.
- Support the development implementation and evaluation of clinical care pathways protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Be registered or eligible for registration in the General Nurse Division of the Register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Have a minimum of 12 years of post-registration experience in an acute care setting.
- Postgraduate clinical qualification in Ophthalmology is desirable.
- Previous nursing experience in specialised clinical areas is essential.
- Demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) and a commitment to lifelong learning.
- Possess a broad understanding of current nursing research and evidence-based practices relevant to clinical care.
- Have experience participating in clinical audits quality improvement initiatives and the implementation of clinical standards.
- Promote and uphold a culture of Care Compassion and Commitment reflecting the core values of the hospital system.
