Senior Medical Scientist – Histology
Job Summary
Assist in developing maintaining and enforcing laboratory procedures and operational standards.
Support the implementation of best-practice procedures to optimise laboratory resources.
Perform scientific laboratory duties in accordance with INAB (ISO 15189) and JCI accreditation standards.
Prioritise and coordinate multiple laboratory testing activities particularly during busy periods.
Assist with laboratory stock management and the investigation and reporting of non-conformances complaints defects and equipment issues.
Participate in research projects professional development training and competency assessment activities.
Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision to laboratory staff supporting safe and efficient service delivery.
Support compliance with Health & Safety legislation and hospital policies including accident prevention and incident management.
Participate in quality assurance internal and external quality control programmes laboratory information systems and departmental data reporting.
Participate in performance reviews objective setting staff development planning and undertake other duties as required demonstrating flexibility to meet service needs.
CORU Registration: Hold current registration with CORU as a Medical Scientist.
Qualification: Hold an ACSLM-recognised MSc in a relevant Biomedical Science discipline.
Histology Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in a medical laboratory with significant experience in Histology.
Additional Experience: Experience in Cut Up and/or Cytology is desirable along with relevant post-qualification experience.
Communication & Teamwork: Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with laboratory management and other hospital departments.
Technical Knowledge: Be familiar with laboratory information systems modern laboratory methods quality laboratory practices relevant legislation health and safety requirements and accreditation standards.
Professional & Adaptable Approach: Demonstrate professionalism dedication adaptability to changes in healthcare services and the ability to contribute effectively to a modern multidisciplinary laboratory team.
