Senior Cobol Developer
Job Summary
Role Description
- Support the analysis and delivery of the organisations migration from 32-bit to 64-bit COBOL and associated systems.
- Produce estimates for requirements where required.
- Develop new functionality and enhancements in line with agreed standards.
- Create functional design specifications and/or user stories.
- Follow code quality data quality and unit testing standards.
- Identify and implement integration and automation tests as required.
- Participate in peer reviews.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues and facilitate knowledge sharing across the team.
- Provide system test support when code is migrated to System Test including SIR resolution.
- Assist with test and production releases.
- Develop familiarity with business processes within the teams area of responsibility.
- Escalate technical challenges or blockers to team leads in a timely manner to support risk management and delivery planning.
- Work with project stakeholders as required.
- Contribute to project management activities including progress tracking and risk management.
- Maintain project information in planning and development tools including Jira requirements and work logs.
- Collaborate with testers to ensure information is shared and expected functionality and timelines are understood.
- Conduct root cause analysis of issues and manage incident and defect tracking activities.
- Recommend and implement resolutions for production issues as required.
Qualifications :
Essential Requirements
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in standards-driven environments.
- Knowledge of project delivery methodologies and application development lifecycles including waterfall agile and hybrid approaches.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with stakeholders to understand and refine business requirements.
- Experience working effectively with application development teams technical colleagues testers support teams and management.
- Experience working with coding languages relevant to the role.
- Experience working with relational databases such as SQL and Ingres.
- Familiarity with techniques for parsing and manipulating structured data formats including RDBMS XML JSON and text files.
Desirable Requirements
- Knowledge of taxation and/or customs processes including registration returns filing and payment processes.
- Experience working on projects with technologies and architectures comparable in complexity and scale.
- Experience working with NoSQL technologies such as Hadoop.
