Meet the team
As Irelands national public service mediaorganisationRTÉ News and Current Affairs provides independent and trusted news and current affairs content across multiple platforms.
We are looking for a Programme Editor TV (News).

Reporting to the Series Editor Television News the Programme Editor TV (News) is a senior editorial presence in the Newsroom with responsibility for all aspects of the programmes to which they are assigned.

About the role:
  • senior management and editorial position working as part of the wider Newsroom team to deliver the strategic priorities of the RTÉ News and Current Affairs division.
  • responsible for the preparation production editorial content and presentation of the daily TV News Programmes weekend bulletins news specials and output as it arises.
  • responsible for line managing and leading reporters and TV News programme teams including rostering.
  • engage in forward planning the development of TV News and wider Newsroom output and contribute to the drafting of policies for the division.
  • engage with correspondents reporters and programme teams and provide ongoing appraisal and development of news output.

About you:
  • proven track record in journalism and possess a keen news sense and an understanding of the challenges of TV news.
  • exercise sound editorial judgement across a wide range of subject matters and be acquainted with all aspects of national life and institutions.
  • demonstrate a vision for developing television bulletins and the digital transformation of all our content.
  • fully committed to the provision of a fair impartial and comprehensive news service.
  • guarantee standards of journalism and presentation.
  • capable and competent under pressure display energy flair and original thinking.
  • capable of line-managing rostering leading and motivating a creative team of journalists and production staff and will be in a position to assess performance.
  • ideally have previous gallery experience.

This appointment will be made at Department Manager Grade 1 level on an Ongoing contract basis. Salary range 83929 to 115520 gross per annum.
