Were looking for a commercially minded privacy and technology lawyer to join our team as Legal Counsel Privacy & AI. Reporting to the Senior Regulatory Counsel and Data Protection Officer youll be responsible for supporting the translation of privacy AI governance and emerging regulatory requirements into practical commercially focused advice and programmes. Youll work with cross-functional teams across the business to embed privacy and responsible AI principles manage risk enable innovation and support regulatory compliance across all aspects of our operations.

What youll do

As a Legal Counsel Privacy & AI youll:
Compliance and advisory:

• Provide practical legal advice on Irish and EU data protection laws including GDPR and ePrivacy Regulations.
• Monitor interpret and advise on legislative and regulatory developments impacting Three including emerging regulatory frameworks such as the EU AI Act Data Act NIS2 and CER.
• Advise on AI-enabled decision making profiling analytics and automated processing activities ensuring compliance with GDPR and AI governance requirements.
• Support Marketing and Technology teams on ePrivacy compliance including cookie governance consent management email marketing and push notifications.
• Ensure Threes privacy data governance and AI-related policies and practices remain compliant and up to date.
• Manage activities relating to data protection filings and regulatory compliance obligations.

Policy and contracts:

• Draft negotiate and maintain data protection clauses and Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with suppliers customers and group entities.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to embed privacy and responsible AI considerations into projects and business initiatives.
• Support the development of customer-facing privacy resources to foster transparency and customer trust.
• Integrate privacy-by-design and responsible AI principles into new products services and commercial activities.

Incident and risk management:

• Support and coordinate responses to data protection incidents investigations consultations and regulatory filings.
• Support interactions with the Data Protection Commission (DPC) and other EU supervisory authorities on complaints inquiries and notifications.
• Conduct and advise on privacy impact assessments AI risk assessments and vendor risk reviews for new projects and technologies.
• Support the ongoing development of governance frameworks and controls relating to privacy and AI risk management.

Performance Metrics and Reporting:

• Manage the maintenance of up-to-date records of processing activities DPIAs and governance documentation across business units.
• Produce quarterly privacy and AI governance KPIs and executive reports for the DPO and leadership teams.
• Ensure all DPIAs are reviewed within agreed service levels and relevant staff complete privacy and compliance training.
• Drive continuous improvement across privacy operations governance processes and compliance programmes.

What were looking for

Must have:

• Excellent knowledge of Irish and EU data protection law including GDPR and ePrivacy Regulations.
• Strong understanding of emerging digital regulation and AI governance frameworks.
• 46 years post-qualification legal experience.
• Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Proven project management skills and the ability to deliver in a fast-paced agile environment.
• Experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to provide practical commercially focused legal advice to business stakeholders.

Nice to have:

• Previous experience working in a commercial organisation or within the telecommunications or technology sector.
• Experience advising on AI governance digital regulation or technology-related legal matters.
