About the team and the role

The Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) organization builds and operates the core data infrastructure that powers eBays global marketplace from real-time product experiences to experimentation analytics and cloud storage at scale.

Within CDT the Data Platforms team develops and operates the systems that enable large-scale data processing experimentation and analytics across eBay. These platforms support how data is ingested processed stored and made available to engineering product and business teams globally.

As a Graduate Software Engineer you will contribute to building scalable backend and distributed systems that support innovation across eBays marketplace. You will work alongside experienced engineers to develop platform capabilities that improve reliability performance and scalability while gaining hands-on experience operating systems at global scale.

You will report to an Engineering Manager within CDT and collaborate closely with software engineers platform teams product partners and data stakeholders in an environment that values curiosity ownership and continuous learning.

What you will accomplish

• Build and ship production-grade backend features that improve platform reliability and scalability
• Contribute to distributed systems that process and manage high-volume marketplace data
• Improve service performance throughput and operational efficiency
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and product partners to translate business needs into platform capabilities
• Strengthen observability and system quality through testing monitoring debugging and automation
• Participate in the design development and operation of cloud-native platform services
• Develop strong distributed systems fundamentals through mentorship and increasing ownership of production systems

What you will bring

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or a related field (graduating in late 2025 or 2026)
• Strong foundation in Object-Oriented Programming and software engineering principles
• Proficiency in Java Python or C
• Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
• Exposure to distributed systems backend services or cloud-native technologies
• Understanding of software development best practices including testing and debugging
• Experience with Kafka Kubernetes cloud platforms or data processing technologies is a plus
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment
