Meet the team
As Irelands national public service mediaorganisationRTÉ News and Current Affairs provides independent and trusted news and current affairs content across multiple platforms.
We are looking for an Editor Political Coverage RTÉ News and Current Affairs

Reporting to Príomh Eagarthóir Nuacht RTÉ. This is a senior management primarily off-air role the purpose of which is to inform and shape RTÉs political coverage across all platforms including the delivery of real time reporting for digital platforms.

About the job
  • provide editorial leadership and direct line management of the team of correspondents and reporters assigned to the Political Unit
  • part of the management team actively contribute to ensuring the delivery of strategic priorities in News and Current Affairs including tackling disinformation
  • requiredto present a daily list at news conference anddeterminestaff assignments as well as play a role at all stages of planning and driving political coverage for online radio and television
  • manage RTÉ News relationship with politicians politicalpartiesand all key stakeholders
  • edit political programmes (e.g. TWIP Leaders Questions referendum results coverage election results coverage) whenrequired
  • requirement to work late hours and at weekends

About you
  • expert knowledge of both Irish and international political developments
  • strong editorial judgement together with an in-depth knowledge of RTÉs journalism guidelines and all other relevant guidelines and legislation
  • significant production and programme editorial of delivering special programming for referendums and General Elections will be a distinct advantage
  • proven experience of managing and leading teams
  • track recordin resource management including financial and technical
  • effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with all key stakeholders

This appointment will be made at Department Manager Grade 1 level on a fixed term/fixed purpose for a duration of three years. Salary range 83929 to 115520 gross per annum.
